Re: Clue 3 - KAL - Gauge Problems

I've only been using the two different needle sizes for the previous clues. Decided on a smaller needle size when the gauge changed. I'm impressed with the texture of both these patterns for Clue 3 but they sure do fight it out when you're trying to combine them for a standard square.

reversed colors!

Postby redbug » Thu Mar 01, 2012 10:48 pm

I have accidently reversed colors E and C for clue 3. I'm only on first square, and just wondered since we have used C in clue 1, will it make much difference in the end, as long as I do all the same. That's what happens when you get in a hurry to see what pattern looks like!

You'll just have to be very careful when it comes time to seam together. Some of your blocks will probably have to be placed upside down. I don't think it will affect the design that much, but it will make a difference.

Both sides should be the same. It should be a square.

I am a little confused, how come on the 3rd clue row one says wrong side but on the 1st and 2nd clue the first row says right side. Are the odd numbered rows the right side or the even? :stop: :idonno:

Each square has its own special design. Sometimes the right row will be on even numbered rows. Other clues will have the right side on odd numbered rows. When it's time to seam them together, it won't matter which row was the right side. We will just turn all the squares right side up, and join them.

thanks.....I think I will begin again since I'm not too far into this clue. Know I will be better satisfied! I am also doing CAL, which moves faster for me so KAL will be lagging the whole way thru. I'm really enjoying both of these projects, and LOVE the Waverly yarn!

Re: Clue 3 - KAL - Gauge Problems

Postby BuckeyeMom » Fri Mar 02, 2012 9:19 am

:idonno: I have a dilemma concerning the gauge. I checked the gauge before I started and thought I was using the size needles I needed. I completed clue 1 without thinking about measuring. I knitted following the clue. Then, went on to clue 2. The only thing I measured there was the length so it measured 9.5 inches. When I got to clue 3 and read the posts about the gauge problems, I decided I should measure the square. It turned out to be 11 inches, 1.5 inches bigger that it was supposed to be. Then, I went back and measured the completed squares. Well, turns out that they are about the same size as the one in clue 3. Now, here's the problem-- :hrmm: Do I go back and redo all the squares with smaller needles or do I continue on and have a bigger afghan? I will have to decide before I do any more squares.

The wrong and right sides are correct in the pattern - if you follow the pattern, the side without the extra line of color at the color change will be your right side.
