The ch 3 and 2 dc count as the first 'set' of 3 dc. Follow with 3 dc in the next ch-1 space then 3 dc in the next ch-1 space then 3 dc in the next ch-1 space. Four 'sets' of 3 dc in ch-1 spaces make a 'side' to the block. The Ch 5 forms the corner. Does that help?
