I finished Clue 2, better late than never, and I am starting today on Clue #3. I still have not been able to get the hang of adding pictures. Maybe I can get that worked out before the end and will be able to show my finished afghan.

When working on clue 2 I changed out the color scheme for two of them...looking at the center rounds looked like a flower so I used my using my color D/darker green on the outer rounds as petals...looks awesome!

I didn't start on this Mystery Afghan until Friday. I finished clue 1 last night and did the first block of clue 2 this morning. I was very disappointed when it came out 1 1/2 inches too small. I changed it a little because the first one I did was only 9 1/2 inches and I feel like I wasted that thread by cutting it.

Clue 2- I started the next square with a larger hook--an I instead of an H.

2nd I added 1 ch in round 2 for more space so I chained 6 instead of 5.

3rd I didn't like cutting the thread after row 3 so on round 3 I sl. st. up 3 chains then ch 3, 2 dbl, 1 half dbl,1 single crochet then I followed the pattern around and end with 1 sgl crochet, 1 half dbl, 2 dbl and slip stich in the 3rd ch.

4th I started the 4th row with 1 ch and a single in the same space, I did add another ch so it was 6 chs instead of 5. This block came out to 11 inches exactly. I like it better this way.

I have been holding on tightly to my too small clue number two motifs and thinking and pausing. I think I am going to do clue three with a bigger hook, achieve the correct tension, and then either add a row to clue two or (gulp) frog it. After all it is such a beautiful blanket and it doesn't really take that long to crochet up the clues. "Frogging" was not in my vocabulary before February of 2012, but with all the support here on the Bernat forums I know I can do it!!

Welcome buglady! :hellogoodbye:

I'm glad that you were able to work out how to get your motif to 11 inches!

I finished clue one the day it came out and started on clue two the day it came out, but did not finished both until today. Started on clue three this evening. . .

I had to go back and re-do clue one and two after finishing them because of my tight tension. Had to up my hook size to 6mm and it still is a little small but workable. Hopefully, I'll be finished with clue three before the next clue comes out.

Gauge

Postby AuntyEm » Wed Mar 07, 2012 5:10 pm

:helpme: I just finished my first block of Clue 2 (I started out a week behind) and it came out MUCH smaller than the blocking template. so my question is, do I use a larger hook (I'm thinking size J) and re-do the block, or do I leave it alone? :hrmm:

My clue 1 squares were pretty well lined up with the blocking template.

Thanks!

This is a common problem with Clue #2.
It can be solved most easily by switching to a larger hook. Some participants have switched to a K hook for this clue. There are other options as well. You can read about them in the discussion already established for this clue.

Would you also recommend a larger hook for clue #3?
