Tools and Gadgets for Knit/Crochet

Has anyone ever made their own knitting needles? I am wanting to make my own so bad. I already have a few friends who said they would buy some from me. I have been searching some websites on how to do it and I'm getting really excited. I will definitely have to wait till my afghan is done, as I am WAY behind.

My husband is a woodturner and has made me some beautiful needles on the lathe out of some really exotic woods. Other than getting yourself a lathe and learning to turn, I can't think of any other way. You could look online to see if there is a woodworking group in your area. He belongs to a national group called the American Association of Woodturners. You could search their website for a local group. Another group in our area is the Northeastern Woodturners Association. Most groups are always happy to teach someone new the craft. Good luck on your quest!

I have made some out of dowls from the hardwee store I sharped them with a pencil sharpener and sanded a varnished them they were quite adiquit they are also very low cost about 50 cents depending on what size you make.

Hi Everyone,

I bought a pair of crafters gloves that are supposed to help your hands while doing needlework, I was wondering if anyone uses or has used these and did they help? Did they have any impact on the tension of your work?

I tried them on the other day to do some knitting but I found them awkward since I couldn't feel the yarn properly and I am concerned that using them will affect my tension in the KAL.

I nearly bought a pair last week cuz my wrists and fingers are getting very sore from all this yarn work. I too wondered if they would interfere or live up to their hype?

I tried using the Hand-Eze therapeutic gloves, but found that they cut off my circulation at the wrists. I probably need a larger size. Anyway, they didn't help me, since they CAUSED pain.

I crochet, giving my aching index finger a break by switching mouse to right click, using middle finger for that.
