I learned to crochet when I was 5 years old, but only the basic stitch. Then when I was about 20 my mother-in-law showed me how to read crochet instructions and I have been stitching away ever since. However I have never made anything complicated and still feel like a beginner. This will be my biggest project ever and even though I didn't find out about it until after clue #2 was posted I am crocheting away and very excited :)

You can do it!
I learned how to crochet by doing the LAST Mystery CAL in 2010.
I'm still learning today, and having a wonderful time doing it.

I was wondering...How often does Bernat host CAL's?

Since the last one was in 2010. I'm enjoying my time here with the CAL and the forum

Bernat has had a CAL or KAL every year since 2009, that I'm aware of. Not sure if they had any before then.

In 2009, we had the Bernat Mystery Blanket Knit-Along, using Bernat Satin yarn.
Here's the full pattern PDF: http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=5037

In 2010, we did a Mystery Blanket Crochet-Along, using Bernat Softee Chunky.
Here's the PDF pattern: http://www.bernat.com/data/pattern/pdf/ ... .en_US.pdf

In 2011, we made knitted and crocheted baby blankets for Project Linus.

Not sure what Bernat has in store for us next year, but I'm looking forward to it. :D

I'm a first timer too. I've never picked out my own colors before. I've been looking through the different types and colors available for those types and I've found that I can't find the colors I want in the same type. Is there a rule on mixing yarns? So far the two I've been looking at are the Waverly for Bernat and the Bernat Super Value.

If you want to mix different yarns, just be sure that they work to the same gauge with the same hook. Otherwise, you'll be switching hooks whenever you change to the other yarn.

This is my first time in any kind of crochet forum and my first time for the CAL. I came across this project when I received a random email from Bernat. I was so excited when I saw it and then showed it to a friend at work, who also crochets. We both decided to try the project and set about choosing our yarn. Every Wednesday, while at work, we check out the new clue and in the evening we make a motif to bring to work the next day. We have quite alot of fun comparing our finished motif and discussing our trouble areas. We really enjoy looking at the finished motifs to see how they look and what colors people are using.

Anyway just wanted to say "Hi" and comment on how much we are enjoying the project. I was wondering how many clues there are. I am having hand surgery at the end of April and am hoping the project will be done by then. It would be torture to be so close to finishing and unable to do so.

Thanks Shandeh! I'll be sure to check the gauge of each yarn. Don't want the hassel of changing hooks!

Welcome Deria! :hellogoodbye:
The 2012 Mystery CAL goes for 15 weeks, and we are in Week #4 right now.

It is interesting to read about how you and your co-worker are working this together, and comparing notes! Fun!
