I am so glad this group is here. I saw the pattern on Friday and immediately wanted to try to make it for my daughter. Love the look of the mermaid tears, hope it is something someone can make that doesn't have lots of experience. :scared: hoping to start either tonight or tomorrow once I finish clue 3 on the CAL. :crown:

Yay! :bravo:

I am glad for this group too. :cloud9: I love :inlove: the Mermaid Tears Purse pattern. It looks as if each scale is separately put on but actually you just crochet back and forth and watch the design unfold. I would like to make purses for my two daughters as well. I guess I'll be making four purses before too long! :knit:

Our Mermaid Tears Purse CAL is right here: viewtopic.php?f=253&t=1983

The Bernat Waverly Mystery CAL discussion is here: viewforum.php?f=121

Every week, a new "clue" (pattern for a motif) is released to create different motifs for the crocheted blanket. The Mystery CAL lasts for 15 weeks, and right now we are starting week 4. It's not too late to join, though! Just go to the discussion I linked above, and start off with Clue #1. But before you get started, read how to prepare all your materials ahead of time right here: One Stop Reference for CAL

Beautiful work!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get the first row of scales to come out to 13. I am using my practice yarn that I learned to crochet with. I have tried 4 times and even switched yarn, but it still only comes out to 12 scales.

Teeyay, I just counted the scales (three times to make sure) on my purse and I ony got 12 too! But it looks beautiful and I have exactly the right amount of sc (84) at the last row. So I say keep going and it will all work out. :hellogoodbye:

I'm sorry you re-did so many times. It makes sense to me that there would only be 12 scales because each scale uses up 7 dcs and 7 x 12 = 84. (There are 84 dcs on the first round.):) :bravo:

Phew, glad you did the math! I was getting confused reading the directions and not coming up with the count I thought I was supposed to have. :reading: but then figured I would just wing it and hope for the best ;)

After untangling the biggest yarn snot I have ever seen (really I don't know how that happened  ) I managed to get my first round of tears done - yippee for me :crown: . Really really like how it is looking, can't wait until after work and kiddos are in bed so I can work on it some more!! :D

Yippee for you! :bravo: After the first few rows I find this pattern is easy to pick up and put down without having to think too hard, this makes it a perfect project to take on the road, or make with kiddy interuptions. :) :cloud9:

Thanks everyone! I thought there would be 13 because after you make two it says to do it 11 more times. :hellogoodbye:
