You look at the dc that you are going to work with, then turn your (clockwise) so that the dc is horizontal. Now working from right to left (or the top of the dc stitch to the bottom of the dc stitch) make 5 dcs down.

Then you chain one, Turn your work anti-clockwise so that the second dc is horizontal but now the bottom of the dc is on the right and the top of your work is on the left. make 5 dcs up that stitch.

It is very tricky the first time, but once I got the hang of it I felt very clever! :cooldude:

Now, if what I just said makes no sense at all, fear not!
I am going to make a video, then I'll get all confused trying to figure out how to post it!! llol

The down/up indicates the direction the double crochets are worked around the 'posts' of the previous row. The stitch is a 'regular' double crochet. Instead of working at the top of the previous row as usual, work around the post (the actual double crochet) of the previous row in the direction indicated (either down or up). Does that help?

I actually found a video by looking up in google "crocodile tear" (apparently it is the same or similar), anyways, there is a man that had a video that was pretty good at explaining it. I agree the directions did not help
someone who is as new to crocheting as I am. Hope that helps!

Oh my gosh, I had that exact thought when I saw the pattern, how cute would the flower look in my daughter's hair!!!! She will love it! :inlove:

It was probably Mikey's video. He does an amazing job of explaining things.

Look for "Mikeysmail" on Youtube. He does a lot of teaching videos using all sorts of amazing yarns (including Bernat).

Yay me! I just posted a youtube video without help!!! :) It's not the greatest quality and sometimes I'm not even in the frame properly, but I named the video "crocodile stitch" so that if you click on it you will get my video and a whole bunch of better ones suggested beside it.
Here it is again: http://youtu.be/ZvS3Awy02VM

Thank you to all of you who responded to my dilema over the "down post" and "up post" stitch. I am sure I will be able to figure it out. Never thought to look up "crocodile stitich". Thanks again.

Sadly if I order online he might lock down the internet and send me to a rehab center for yarn (and maybe even purse) addiction

That is hilarious!!! He sounds like my husband, and if you are anything like me you will find a way! haha.

I think I found a way!!! I'm pretty sure I can do this with stash yarn!!! So excited! I was thinking maybe black for the bottom and grey for the top, and maybe making the flowers into clips that attach so I can make a few different colored ones and change them to add the right pop of color to match my outfit or mood or whatever that day.
