Yarn Ideas for Bernat

Postby Shandeh » Fri Feb 10, 2012 4:52 am

Is there a different type of yarn you would like for Bernat to provide?

Personally, I would like it if Bernat would make a wool blend sock yarn. I enjoy knitting socks, and like having the option of wool in my socks.

Along those lines, I would also like a cotton blend sock yarn, to use for knitting summer ankle socks.

Or maybe a bamboo blend sock yarn!

And it would be nice to have a medium weight version of those same yarns, for making thicker socks or slippers.

What about your yarn ideas?

While I was making my scarf with knit and knot today, I remembered in the eighties when I knitted two tops with a wool that was quite fine and had texture, very much like some of the threads in the knit and knot. I used big needles (had to wear a tank top underneith the top) the top was all garter stitch with hardly any shaping, practically just a rectangle. I used to wear it with a big belt and capris, it was the style at the time, and that style is back! I would love to make another one for this summer but I don't have the pattern any more and I would need to find wool that is similar.

Hey Zhanie, did you do the knit or the knot? I bought four hanks of this before the KAL started and got one knot done. Going to do a knit with the same colour again to see the difference. I really like all the different textures in it. Do you have a pic posted in the projects section?

Hi sorry, I just ready your post. I knitted my scarf. I did post a picture somewhere. I'll look around. How are your scarves coming along? :crown:

I remember that top! I had a couple also. As I recall, the pattern was in some magazine, and was advertised as a "1-skein" top. ( I bought two anyway because I wanted it a bit longer than the pattern directed :) ) It was one of my first knit projects, and I liked it because it went fast, was done on large needles, no shaping to speak of and all garter stitch! It was around 1980-1981, because I can remember the cute little yarn shop where I bought the supplies.....tiny place in a very upscale little block of boutiques, stuffed to the gills with every kind of specialty yarn that was available at the time! It was close to where I worked at the time, and was a great place to spend a lunch hour.

I've come across quite a few people, from various parts of the world, who call ALL yarn "wool". It does sometimes cause confusion to those of us who only call actual wool yarns "wool". We call them all "yarn", to include all fibers.....you call them all "wool" to include all fibers, and it makes us raise one eyebrow in consternation.
