I've been feeling the same way, but since I'm making the KAL for my son I'm just going to keep going with it even though I still haven't finished any of the clues. I'll be thrilled if I can complete it in time for his 6th birthday in July.

Sure wish there was one closer as I have never been in one and would love to go. We have Hobby Lobby, Michaels and JoAnn. The only store in my town that sells yarn is WalMart and the selection is not great.

I did the same thing and found the closest to me is 387 miles -- way too far!!!
Same here...only place I can get yarn is Wal Mart. or, I drive 45 miles to the nearest place....cheaper to get it online!!

Hello All,

Yes, I'm making two CAL Afghans. I started out trying to make four as a family pack for my children and my husband, but after the first clue I cut it down to two. So this time round only my boys will get the afghan, I hope they're ok with the pattern. I just finished clue 2 for both and starting on clue 3 and praying clue 4 will let me catch up before clue 5.

I decided to start with clue #3 for my second (which is in the waverly colors) since I got that yarn later. I have clues 1 and 2 done in my non-Waverly colors. I figure I can catch up on clues 1 and 2 for the Waverly colors later. Of course, now I am behind anyway due to hand and wrist issue but oh well.

I am making the KAL along with the CAL. I can keep caught up on the CAL, but only have 1 square of each clue in the KAL. I can crochet much faster than I can knit. I too am one who never seems to finish a project, but I am loving this with all you crocheters out there. I sure don't want to be left behind. I am determined to finish this for my Granddaughter's wedding. It is so much fun to get the next clue. A friend at work is doing the KAL and every Wed. we can't wait til the new clue comes in. I hope to do this next time, if there is one.

WOW! I think these are beautiful. I finished mine on Sat. Then I started the KAL, but I know I will never catch up. Oh well!! There is always tomorrow. This is so much fun. A friend at work is doing the KAL, so we are always comparing.

Just thought I would share this - liked the factoids comparing knit to crochet (reason I am sharing it here).

I just decided to make a second one. Its more that I going to double all the clues, because i cant get the octo's bigger then 9 inch and still looking good. Also i want it to fit a single bed and with the size of the octo's it probably wont be bigger the 36 x 54 inch. So I thought to add a second one to get the size to 72 x 54 inch which will be big enough for a single bed. Fortunately I have enough of the same yarn in my stash :notworthy:

I think I have posted in this topic before, but wanted to add, I am making two, I had totally planned to make both exactly as asked, then we got to clue 2 and I hated it! So I made clue two for my first blanket and decided I would wait to find another octagon clue to replace clue two for my second blanket - which I have not found yet, but we have one more octagon to go. If the next clue is not something I love I do have a nice back-up octagon I will make in clue 2 colours.
Then on clue 5 I made it for my first blanket exact. Then decided it would possibly melt my brain out if I made another 6 for the second blanket, so I found a centre I liked better and used that for the first two rows then skipped to the fourth row of clue 5 and finished it. I love this motif much more than the first blanket. It is a little smaller, but lucky for me so are the first 4 clues! So they all line up perfectly.
I am using 3 different colour schemes (third is for the knit KAL)

How do you know how many octagons there will be?
