Easy to see that they go in the ring once you look at the chart but if you're going from just the text directions, it may be really confusing.

It does say on the text directions 1st rnd: Working into ring:.... and then goes on to describe the popcorn stitch.

Right. But for 'new crocheters', that might be interpreted as the first stitch/popcorn being worked into the ring. And then where does the 5dc go? I was just trying to head off any confusion.

Also, I started with my much beloved magic circle. I think it would be difficult to get 20 stitches in a ch4 loop otherwise.
I am not using Bernat yarn for this color but think it close to the same gauge, I made the last row extended double crochets and it worked to exactly 4 1/2 inches, thank goodness.
These bobbles are turning out a little better for me than my other ones, I think that extra yo before pulling through all the loops helps but they still look like knots to me. I don't know, I usually try to put a lot of them on baby blankets because they are so tactile and little kid's charity hats for fun, but have never liked mine.

I keep seeing people mentioning "extended double crochet". What is it and how do you do it?
