Soooooooooo excited to be using my D colour! My afghan so far, is cream and 2 shades of purple and blue......my D colour is a vibrant red. Can't wait to see how this all fits together. And the popcorn stitch?? I LOVE that stitch...sooooooo much fun! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

I had to re-read 1st rnd a couple of times then look at the chart. The instructions say "*5dc. Drop loop..." :idonno: They don't say WHERE to put the 5dc. Easy to see that they go in the ring once you look at the chart but if you're going from just the text directions, it may be really confusing. :hrmm:

editing to add;
I love the popcorn stitch, too :inlove: I still have the baby afghan I made for one of my "babies" when they were born... all of them in their 20's now ;)

Looking forward to hooking these when I'm done with work today :mrgreen:

It does say on the text directions 1st rnd: Working into ring:.... and then goes on to describe the popcorn stitch.

Right. But for 'new crocheters', that might be interpreted as the first stitch/popcorn being worked into the ring. And then where does the 5dc go? I was just trying to head off any confusion.

I agree with karenarp, making that stitch that joins the dcs of the bobble just a little looser. I know I have a tendency to really tighten it to make the bobble look better, but you have to work in that stitch in the next rounds.

Also, I started with my much beloved magic circle. I think it would be difficult to get 20 stitches in a ch4 loop otherwise.

I am not using Bernat yarn for this color but think it close to the same gauge, I made the last row extended double crochets and it worked to exactly 4 1/2 inches, thank goodness.

These bobbles are turning out a little better for me than my other ones, I think that extra yo before pulling through all the loops helps but they still look like knots to me. I don't know, I usually try to put a lot of them on baby blankets because they are so tactile and little kid's charity hats for fun, but have never liked mine.

I would say I'm still a fairly new crocheter (in that I knit a lot more than crochet) and I've found that crochet instructions imply that you keep doing something where you're instructed to until you're told differently but maybe that's just the way I interpret it (did that make sense? :huh: )

I keep seeing people mentioning "extended double crochet". What is it and how do you do it?

What a cute block! I am very quickly learning not to judge my work until I reach the last round. I thought this one was just a mess until I made it to the end. Beautiful.

from a previous post of mine:

An extended double crochet is a way to add height to a double crochet. It is taller than a double crochet, but not as tall as a treble crochet. You are basically adding a chain at the bottom of the dc.

This is how you do an extended double crochet (edc)

Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and draw through 1 loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops) 2 times—1 edc completed.
