With five square of clue one done, I think it's time to move on to clue two, and do some of those for a while... I'll probably do the other three before I even start clue 3. Clue 4 is coming out tomorrow... Oh boy.

Don't stress! We have some "catch up weeks" and I think I have 6/20 of my squares done :scared: (had the flu week 1)...I have also realized I am a slower knitter than I thought ;) But the clues aren't going anywhere and the moderators will still be around to answer questions after week 15!

I'm working on my fourth square from clue 1. I've done 1 square from clue 2. I haven't even touched clue 3 yet. I'm relying on those catch up weeks to really get things done in this and am trying to just not stress at all and just enjoying the process. I'm also doing the CAL and am trying to make sure I finish each clue each week for that one so that when we have catch up weeks I should be able to work just on the KAL clues.

I would recommend posting that idea to the "Blocking" discussion in the KAL/CAL Chatter area.

I'm behind on my squares, too. I've got 5 of Clue 1 done and I've just finished the first of Clue 2. I just cast on for the 6th one of Clue 1 -- maybe when I finish that I'll try one of Clue 3 ??? In a way, it is good to be a week behind (although I'm further back than that) because I can look at the pictures of squares that others have finished and see if mine looks like theirs --- Enjoying it, though --

I've done 4 for clue 1, 1 of clue 2, and 1 of clue 3. I've decided to try clue 4 as soon as I finish CAL clue 4. The squares for the KAL have been taking me so long that I've found it more enjoyable to skip around and do one from one clue and one from another instead of trying to just work right through one clue at a time.

In searching for an inexpensive blocking board set up, I bought a 12" x 36" piece of styrofoam (with a coupon, of course) that is 2" thick to accommodate my 1" U-shaped pins. Then I covered the styrofoam, wrapping it like a giftbox with pattern tracing interfacing fabric from my sewing stash, and secured it with the U-shaped pins in places where you would use cellophane tape when wrapping a gift box. The pattern tracing fabric is a light interfacing type fabric, printed with a blue 1" grid on it. Not only does it prevent the styrofoam from depositing "foam crumbles" on everything, but the blue color does not run and it's quick to pin out the desired size of the item I am blocking. (It is usually found in the interfacing section of your local fabric store.) The styrofoam is pourus and helps along the drying process. This is a good method for blocking smaller items and I don't have to store a huge piece of foam. If I have something larger to block, I can just add another block of foam and butt it up against my first piece. That's it.....my stroke of genius. PS: notice the badge ? I appreciate your encouragement ....on to Clue #2.

I love this idea :inlove: I am going to try it--thanks for posting, Janet :notworthy:

I agree Celie, I did not even start the Mystery Afghan until clue #2 came out. I have done 7 square for Clue #1 and am on the final one. Also...because I just couldn't wait, did one square for Clue #2 to see how hard or easy it would be for me. The great thing in being behind, like you said, is we can follow on the board and note any problems others have had and how to fix them or deal with them, before we even start!! Magic.

So loving this...first time I have done an Afghan, and get such a sense of acomplishment from finishing one square. I have also found by the 3-4 square I don't even need the instructions now, just do it. Best tip I have heard here.....use a saftey pin to mark the right side (or increase row) ...priceless!!
