Looks like round 2 is off, which makes round 3 off. The three clusters of popcorn stitches should be above each popcorn in row 1, with the ch4s inbetween. Looks like maybe your ch4s are in the wrong place?

Is it possible when you started round 2 you started right that the top of the last popcorn stitch from round 1, as opposed to slip stiching into the first popcorn stitch from round 1? I started to do that on my first square but caught myself since it looked off.

:reading: Notes to self; make sure to watch where round two popcorns are 'into'.
Don't be too loose.
Make sure there are three popcorns per side in rnd 2.

lol....i knew I was an emotional wreck yesterday when I got online at 10:29am, decided to look on the bernat boards, and was stunned to see the new forum topic for clue 4...i had TOTALLY forgotten! been a bit distracted I guess. :rainy:

but I'm off and running....and just to repost what i already put in the clue4 topic, I did 4 of this motif before I checked the size, and they were too big. So, they're all ripped out and ready to restart after work. ptui.

I made 3 before I finally had one I liked. I started ignoring the pattern by time I got to the third one and just went with my gut and how I knew it should look and so made sure to work it that way. My first was too large, second was off centre and third was just perfect!
Tried loading my motif and got this again;
Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.
Thought the issue had been resolved :(

Other than that Clue #4 is going well for me after I figured it out. Pictures you are all posting are looking great!!

Yeah....been there. Just take a deep breath, relax your wrists, and gently work it apart. Listening to nice music helps too!

After taking everyones advise this is my second attempt. It looks more centered than the first one. When the pattern says stitch in the first popcorn am I suppose to be stitching into the connecting loop stitch?

Looks good to me. I have been stitching into the center of the popcorn stitch, the ring formed when the 5dc stitches are connected. Seems to be working for me and looks like the other photos..

Where in KY are you? I have family in North Eastern KY. Was born in Lexington...

Re: trouble with popcorn stich

Postby karenarp » Thu Mar 08, 2012 3:17 pm

I have taken to ignoring the directions for where to place the double crochets on the last row. To start a row I slip stitch to a nice spot to start and begin the row, if I slipped to the large corner chain space then I know I need to put in 3 doubles and chain, if I ended up slipping into the popcorn to start the third row I do my start double there and then continue. I know in a row there needs to be 13 doubles, so I put three in the corner, then into the very centre of the popcorn I insert my hook all the way through the whole popcorn stitch and complete my fourth double, then into the space beside, which should be my chain one from row below, I put 2 doubles. I then put my seventh into the middle popcorn, once again going all the way through. Next I put the 8 and 9 into the next space and the tenth double into the last popcorn and then the last three into the corner space. Do my chain and repeat the process. On the last round I just add up how many I have there now in that row (3, 4 or 5) and then add stitches till I reach 13. In the end I my final thread may end up in a different place than the directions say, but it still works out, so am not worried.
You will notice if you look carefully that my end thread is in three different spots on each of the motifs!

Here are two of my Clue #4 motifs. The one on the right is Afghan #1 non-Bernat yarn (Avocado green) and the one on the left is Afghan #2 Waverly's Stone Brown. As you can see from the picture, I used the hook shown for both and they came out different sizes, even though the labels for both yarns were very similar in size, weight, skein length, hook size suggestion, and stitches per inch.
