I have been lucky and had a sewing/craft room in 2 houses. My CA house had my 1st sewing room but I used the dining room table for cutting fabric since I had no table or room for one in the sewing room, which was actually a sitting room off of the master room. Soon I had plastic drawer bins in the dining room to hold my craft & fabric paints and scrap-booking supplies. Then came low bookcases to hold boxes of photos, craft magazines and books. I used pretty Christmas fabric to cover them for the holiday when the room was needed as a dining room. Plus I had a basket by the end of the couch in the family room for whatever I was working on at the time.

We moved to WA October 2007 and for almost a year we lived in a tiny house (800sq ft) and everything was boxed. We bought a bigger house and I got the large finished basement but all my stuff was still in boxes or in storage. We traveled to CA every month as my hubby still worked for a company in San Francisco that wanted him onsite one week a month for the closing of the months accounting system (we are still traveling once a month).

The next year we had so much work to do on our house, the 2 rentals we were trying to sell and helping our youngest daughter with her house, there was no time for crafting or organizing. Our oldest daughter, son in law and almost 3 year old grandson moved in with us 2 years ago after son in law lost his job, so once again not much has gotten done except move more stuff into the basement to store it. My room now has boxes all the way to the ceiling along one wall and half way up on another and yet most of my fabric/crafts/yarn is still in storage. I'm really getting tired of every time I want or need something "it is in a box somewhere" and now my daughter is saying the same thing since most of their stuff is in boxes in her sister's basement.

This winter I was inspired by my youngest daughter after she started working on baby blankets to give to friends expecting. After I pulled out some projects my daughter living with me pulled hers out again too. So now we have family nights where we are all working on projects and can all be in the same room to watch the grandson play.

My goal this spring is to start the paring down process of all that is in storage and make my room more useable. Moving from a big house to a smaller one I have way too many decor items that I also need to part with since i just don't have the room to use them. wish me luck

I wish I had a craft room - one day when the kids grow up and move out I will use one of their rooms :inlove: I know what I want to put in there just have to wait. It will be a while with my youngest being 2 years old :o Right now I have a HUGE basket in the living room under a table. It is so full that my yarn is actually falling out of the basket  I have a big comfy chair next to said table and I :knit: while I watch television.

I do have ONE room with no crafts in it EVER. The bathroom. :D

I also craft in there!!! I know it's strange, but I tend to take small portable projects (think granny squares) and crochet while soaking in the tub. I know it sounds weird and a little tricky, but it works for me...and is sometimes the only crochet time I get.
