Knit-Along Clue 4

Well...wish me luck! I just finished all of Clue #3, so am now beginning Clue #4! Woohoo!! I hope I don't have too much trouble with the gauge. Crossing my fingers while I knit...oh, wait, that'll make it a little hard to knit. Ok...well...here I go anyway!

How to remember whether I am to knit a 9th row or an 11th row????? I worked several rows and realized that this was going to be a problem for me SO I wrote down the number of stitches that will be on my needle to determine if I am ready for a 9th row or an 11th row...... here are the number of stitches


I hope this helps someone else who might get lost in knitting!

thank you for that Trudi .. lol now i know where i went wrong on mine cos it ended up looking like a seed stitch except the first 4 or 5 rows .. i usually don't have a problem with the instructions but i think i just wasn't paying attention that you gotta alternate where you start the K1 below at .. that's what happens when you watch tele & knit at the same time

This square is so refreshing after the last clue. Back to that wonderful, squishy stitch; shaker rib stitch and finishing off with the garter stitch. I still have one square to finish for clue #3, but couldn't wait to try out this clue. I'm not able to post a picture right now...must be that solar storm!

I just love the squish too. I kept stopping every few rows to just feel it! Can't wait to be wrapped up in this Blanket!

did you change needle size at all for clue 4 I have done one square of clue 3 and one side seems smaller even thou I used a smaller needle for the first 1/2 now I am doing clue 4 and wonder if I have to change the needle size

Nope for clue 4. I used same needles for clues 1,2 and 4 but Clue #3 gives me the same results as you. I tried knitting tighter and got better results for the first part, but it didn't correct the difference between the two halves and my hands hurt so much I had to go get the next smaller size needles (and I'm already using one size smaller than suggested!). Then I went and got extra yarn, because I'm not going to rip what I already did, but use four bigger squares for a pillow for my cats.

Gonna finish all of Clue 4 and then experiment with 3 again. Either I'll finally get it or I'll become a designer to figure out a solution!

Just finished clue 1 finally! Have 2 more for clue 2, 7 more for clue 3 but I'm going to break out colour A and give clue 4 a try!! Am loving this...if only there were more knitting hours in a day

Will your kids have an upcoming hockey tournament where you can spend some time knitting?
I took today off of work in order to use up some last banked hours before fiscal year end, and got one square done this morning. That was fun!

Had to start over sev times due to getting up to answer the phone, etc. Rows 9 and 11 take
some diligence on my part to make sure which row I'm on. I hate having to pay attention ! lol
I'm going to start marking the row I'm on with a pencil dot in case I'm interrupted at any point.

This is not a problem for me for this Clue.... In fact, I memorized it quickly and find it a great one to do when watching television.
Now Clue 3, however, puts me into trauma mode! Still trying to recover from my crash and burn episodes and get my courage back up to try it again from another angle.

I made a chart that shows Rows 8-11, and whether you are on row 9 or 11 based on the number of stitches on your needle. It helped me to stay on track, and is one of the reasons I was able to finish the first half of the square so quickly.

For me it is too much trouble to keep count of each row so I discovered another way to realize what row you need to do next. When you are ready to start a pattern row of 9 or 11 all you have to do is... once your fabric is in position to start the row ( left hand with stitches) you have to just look on the (front side) which is the side that is away from you, and find the first vertical v row.. count the stitches in front of that and if there are 4 (an even #) you start with (row 9) k2.... if there are 3 stitches in front of the v vertical row you start with (row 11) k1 (an odd #) . The only time I have to keep count of any stitches is when I think I am close to the 55 stitches needed. That's one of the fun things about knitting, different things work for different people and we all end up in the same place!

Starting Clue 4 tonight...would like to at least get one done before I go back and finish up my 7 for clue one and 6.5 for clue 3...HAHAHA! Went over to a friends last night but as this afghan is for her son I had to work on something else...a slipper kit from Mary Maxim with a star stitch...which made the issues I had with clue 2 & 3 seem like a walk in the park The good news is that I finally picked up a pair of straight 5mm needles as my splits are driving me bonkers!
