I have left a 12" tail at the end of all my motifs--big and little. Mostly because I'm a stickler for following instructions. And also because, even though I've made lots of granny squares, I have NEVER put them together. I'm so excited to do this CAL because hopefully I will finally learn to put them together. I have a ton of squares made that I've either given away or still have sitting in a drawer.....

This motif is easy but, as someone else said, you do have to pay attention. All of a sudden on my 4th or 5th round I noticed I only had 7 sides! Rip it, rip it!

I am glad I didn't finish Clue 4 so I can do one of these and then one of those to break up the monotony.

I've been weaving mine in. I want to use one color to join and I'm thinking it will be neater (for me).

D'oh! I expected it to come out big so I tightened up my tension, and now it's too small.

We need a little frog smilie.

I got the first block done. I had to pay attention to tension again as I'm a tight crocheter. On the last round I really loosened up the tension and I came out to 11 inches. Now if I can keep it slightly loose on the other ones... First time doing a granny type square.... I like it :cloud9: . Off to do lunch then the other 5... :knit: :knit: I posted a picture in the spoiler thread if you want to see what it looks like.

Thank goodness...this looks like a fairly simple one! Now to see if I'm going to need a K or L hook (like I did for the other octagons).

Yipee! First octagon is done... half an inch too wide with an H hook! Oops! I also wonder if this is the last for MC. I'll be pretty close with done for yarn after these six octagons are done.

this is the first one i had to tear out a couple of times. for me, this was the hardest one. just because i had to actually pay attention to what i was doing. all the other clues i could catch up on my shows while working the clues but this one, i had to turn off the tv and bribe my 4 yr old to be quiet so i could count. i did it. i completed one.

Are people finding that you all need to use the same size hook as for the other octagons? I found that I've been having to use a larger hook for the octagons vs. the squares...

This clue is a bit reassuring. As you can see from my signature, I have only been able to get through the first clue without major issues. I am working on Clue 2, thanks to Shandeh's helpful videos and am just taking my time. I am a self-taught crocheter from watching videos online, so I am much more successful watching the videos as opposed to written out clues. Unfortunately I haven't had a whole lot of spare time lately to catch up on the clues, but I will eventually. Looking forward to it!
