Oddly enough, I actually found that my octagons were coming out too small (about 9") with the I hook. My belief about why that happened is because a) I had become too confident that the bigger hook would solve the sizing issue, so I did not relieve the tension and b) because of the material of the hook. I noticed with my other projects, the yarn did not behave quite as well using a plastic hook, vs a metal one.

I have a full day today, but wanted to pop in and say hi :hellogoodbye: and see what the next clue is. It should be an easy one. :-) I'll be able to begin later tonight.

On the tails, I'm not doing a 12 " tail and I'm leaving them all as in and will hide them all when we begin to seam everything together.

Like Shandeh mentioned/suggested, I'm going to use one yarn color to seam everything together.

Have fun everyone with the new clue. I love doing a CAL. It's so much fun and I'm more disciplined by doing it together. Too bad we can't see everyone face to face and chat it up while we are crocheting. :-)

Can we please get the spacing fixed in the first line of Round 5? I'm having a hard time keeping my place.:tears:

Just read all 5 pages that have been posted this morning, printed my clue and got my yarn and 3 different hook sizes out. I believe this means I am ready to begin! Happy hooking Ladies (and any gents that are out there who have joined us)! :hellogoodbye:

Eeek, a granny!! For some reason these strike fear in my heart. Oh well, time to overcome it. I've seen so many great granny square blankets that I've been too nervous to try. But this may be the kick in the pants I need. Ok...I'm going in!

My spacing turned out just fine when following the pattern as it was written. Maybe go back a rnd or 2 and dbl check that you didn't miss a st somewhere. I did in rnd 4 and had to fix it before I moved to rnd 5. Hope this helps...Good Luck!

I think she means in the PDF text of the pattern instructions. The first line of Round 5 is all mushed together. Makes it hard to read.

:ire: Gack - just spent 3 hours with the plumber tearing apart my bathroom and the walls to find the leak that must have been happening for months, with all the mildew that was in the wall. :rainy: Which I'm sure was over $300 for that little visit. Now, my bathroom is torn apart. The floor might need to be replaced. The insurance adjustor is coming out this afternoon. I'm not done with Clue 4 from being in the hospital with my Mom all weekend while we sat until my Aunt passed Sunday morning. But, HEY, the LEAK is FIXED! :tears:

Finished the first octagon. It was only 10" using an I hook...now it's time to rip it out, move up to a J hook and try again. I have a really tight tension, so I should have gone with the J hook to begin with...I hate trying to loosen my tension...it feels weird!
