Oooh oh oh I read something the other day that may be very useful to know for everyone who has tight gauge! Thread crochet is tighter than yarn crochet, therefore you learn a tighter tension in order to get the right look in thread. And if you learned to crochet using thread this may very well be why your tension is tight! I learned with thread, my mom created doilies galore, she never read a pattern in her life but could create any design you asked her to just by describing it to her, and I learned to crochet copying her. It was such a tiny sentence in a huge book that said this about tension, but it makes so much sense! I have not used thread in maybe 20 years and until I tried learning how to hold yarn for knitting my crochet was always tight.
This is a very pretty pillow pattern and such a new way to use doilies!

I've never tried crocheting with thread, and it interests me!

This is so true, I learned with thread crochet and I am also a thight crocheteer. I too learned from my mom who was a huge crochet fan and made such beautiful things. Knowing that (being a thight crocheteer) I almost never have a gauge issue, since I always start my gauge swatch with a bigger hook.
Maybe it's time to renew with thread and try this lovely pattern. And your right, this is a new, modern and pretty way to use doilies

I am sure that once you start crocheting with thread, you will want to make more than doilies, there are so many nice things to do with it. A few years back I made a tablecloth, and shawl among other things. So give it a try I am sure you'll like it

I'm in! Just as soon as I get some thread. I figured that the reason why my tension was tight is because I have crocheted more doilies than anything else. I love making doilies. :cloud9:

That looks great! Crochet isn't something I've been very successful with, but watching the doily get made up is so cool!

The doily is done, and is on the blocking board. I started another doily but the mirror image. I am sure those will look very nice on my couch
