Introduce Yourself!

If you feel like talking about something that isn't knit- or crochet-related, feel free to do so here.

I'm really excited about finding this Cal. I found it on ravelry and ran right on over here and signed up.

I love all the emoticons available! :inlove: (hope I did that right) :?:

I just crochet. Have been since I was a teenager - longer ago than I care to admit.

I live in southern Arkansas...GO HOGS!!

Favorite project has to be covered hangers. I have literally made hundreds of them for gifts through the years. Finally started doing the dishcloths and scrubbies with the cotton yarn. Have made a dozen or so throw size afghans and one king-size bedspread. I also have done some filet work and edgings on washcloths.

My other hobbies include spending too much time on the computer in crafting sites, quilting, and reading.

Looking forward to getting acquainted with ya'll.

I'm Amy, here in Manitoba, which is not as cold as one might think...we were above freezing today, and yet it is January.

I began knitting when I was little, perhaps about 7 or 8...it was one of those summers. Crocheting, I tried a bit when I was about 12, but it didn't really take off, probably because my mom was not as good at crocheting as knitting! So, crocheting lay dormant until last year's Knit and Crochet along for Project Linus! Now, I love it as well. Which was amazing. I LOVED doing it! 15 warm babies and children :)

The basics on me...I am 21, a 4th year Bachelor's of Music student-I am a music history major, so I do a LOT of reading and writing for my degree...besides the practising that my major practical study instrument of the flute requires. I just passed my one-year anniversary for teaching Music for Young Children in November. Music for Young Children is a unique keyboard based program combining keyboard, sight-reading, ear-training, singing, composition, theory, history, rhythm and so much more! Right now I have three classes, my Sunshine One class for 3-4 year olds, my Sunbeams One class for 5-6 year olds and my Moonbeams One class for 7-9 year olds. Each class is limited to 6 children, and each child comes with a parent or other caregiver to serve both as a helper in class and as an aide to practising at home. I LOVE TO TEACH!!!!!

Being busy means that there is less time for knitting and crocheting but I am hopeful that I will be able to do this project. Even if it takes longer! Eventually, my summer break will come, although that is a long ways off, given that Winter semester only started today.

So, I love knitting and crocheting, I have also done a number of cross-stitch pieces in the past...most of which are now framed. I am currently studying piano and flute, and have been doing so for-in the case of the piano-almost longer then I can remember, given that I started as a Sunshine One student when I was four years old! This is something that my piano teacher...who has taught me since I was 4...sometimes likes to forget as well, as it shows that she is 17 years older as well. I enjoy reading a lot, although these days, much of my reading comes from books with titles such as "A short history of Opera" (short, meaning only 1300 pages...no jokes), or "Essays on J.S. Bach". I am currently in four ensembles at the University-the Wind Ensemble, the Symphony Orchestra, the Concert Choir and then my small ensemble, which is a flute-guitar duet. So I stay pretty busy, especially when you add in the second part-time job that I have, as a marker for one of my old professors. But I wouldn't change things a bit!

I am happy that I am at the age where some of my friends are beginning to have children, as knitting baby and toddler things is very enjoyable. Other than that, I have continued to make blankets for Project Linus, along with the mittens for the mitten tree and prayer shawls for the knitting ministry.

Welcome Amy! :hellogoodbye:

I think I remember you from the Project Linus thing. That was fun, wasn't it? :)

So, here we are again, knitting, crocheting, and talking about music.

Today, in North Carolina (USA), it was 16 degrees! WEIRD! :?

Hello :)

I am from Alberta, Canada.

I am a crocheter. My grandmother attempted to teach me the basics when I was young, but I didn't have the patience at the time to keep up with it. It did however plant the seeds. I've always been fascinated by the yarn aisle, and when I was about 20, I got a basics booklet and taught myself. I love making all kinds of things, it really just depends on my mood.

I keep trying to tech myself to knit, but I get frustrated by how slow I am with it, and end up picking up a hook again. I really want to learn to make socks though, so one day I am just going to have to stick with it, lol.

Other than crochet, I am an avid reader, with a soft spot for mysteries and historical romances. My favorite music artists are Serena Ryder, Tracy Chapman, Blue Rodeo, and Adelle.

I found these forums after getting the email about the chrochet and knit along, and am looking forward to another great place to share ideas with other crafters :)

A lot of my coat hangers were covered by my Baba probably over 20 years ago, and I love them! It's funny to think that such a seemingly small project can make me think of her every time I look in my closet :) How did you learn how to make them?

Wow, Dee! I could have written your first three paragraphs to describe myself. :D

I, too, am from Alberta (Edmonton). My Grandma tried to teach me crochet when I was really little. I basically ended up with REALLY long chains. Haha! When my first daughter was born, I needed a hobby - cause you know how new moms are just SWAMPED with free time - and I decided to teach myself crochet. I bought a couple of beginner books, and armed with the free patterns for dishcloths and afghans from the wrappers on the yarn, I was ready to go.

Do you knit and/or crochet? I crochet. I tried knitting, but I found it really frustrated when I made a mistake. It’s not exactly like crochet, where you can just pull out stitches until you get to the bad part. I don’t have the patience for it, but I LOVE crochet.

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? My oldest daughter turned 7 a couple of months ago, so somewhere around 6 or 7 years.

Where are you from? I was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada,, and aside from a short move up north, I’ve lived here all my life. :)

What are your favorite things to make? I don’t really have a favourite. A few months ago I finished a plaid blanket for my Dad in the family's tartan, and I really liked how the finished product looked! (who knew you could crochet a tartan?) I discovered Amigurumi in November, and ended up making Angry Birds toys for all the kids in the family for Christmas.

What other hobbies do you have? Do kids count as a hobby? ;) I have 7yo and and just-turned-5yo daughters, and my husband works out of town, so my days are pretty full. I fill in the cracks with crochet, although I have been known to sew the girls’ Halloween costumes.

Hello, Everyone!

I'm from Orlando, FL, and this will be my second CAL. I did the one from last year which is now on the rocking chair upstairs. It goes so well with that room, I hope I have the same happen this time. This time is for the living room.

I crochet. My mom taught me when I was around 4, but I didn't do anything serious until a few years later. I've attempted to teach myself knitting several times. I can do the basics, but I'm slow and it just doesn't click with me like crochet. I'm 36, by the way. So, I guess that's quite a few years of crocheting. I mostly make afghans, but I also make doilies, and I used to make doll clothes. I occasionally do scarves and hats, but that's the limit on making things that must be worn.

I mentioned above that I'm in Orlando, but I'm originally from Indiana. I've lived in FL for 10 years, so this is really my home.

I love movies and reading. I especially like thriller/horror, paranormal, and sci-fi/fantasy genres. I also dance: jazz, tap, and ballet. I get the opportunity to perform a couple of times a year.

I'm looking forward to this year's CAL adventure. Maybe I will try the KAL afterwards, so I'll try not to peek at the finishing instructions.

Another dancer! I always wanted to learn to dance, but my parents probably couldn't afford it back then. Oh well.....the few times I've tried to follow dance instructions, I've completely failed, so it's probably a blessing in disguise!
