I made the flower last night, not sure what happened to my brain since I had to re-start several times  . The white yarn has a wee bit of a sparkle to it, (think snowy sparkle, it was left over from snowmen I made this winter) which I thought gave it just a little extra pop. I still have one handle to make, but you get the idea of how it will look.

We are celebrating my daughters birthday at the end of the month, I can not wait to see her reaction!!! Yup, I'm pretty proud :crown:

My niece (7) just came by with her dad and she saw my purse and wanted one too, so I took her up to my craft room and let her pick out 3 colours she liked. So I am about to start my second one. Her dad suggested a shoulder strap since she does like to wear purses that way or a shorter handle inserted into the longer one so she could carry it without it dragging when she isn't wearing it on her shoulder. She is tiny!
Sadly one of the yarn colours she picked was from my baby stash so now I need to go to Michael's to try and get a worsted yarn in the same colour. I tried making the flower from the baby yarn and it just bubbled up terribly and was super tiny. over all not too bad for a flower, but not quite right! and she wanted it for the body of the purse. She totally loved the name of the purse!
So anyone have an idea / suggestion how to insert a handle in the handle or if this one could be made longer to create a shoulder strap and still be strong?

Karenarp. I have a friend who wants me to make her a small purse with a long strap to wear over her shoulder. I was going to use the same strap as the mermaid tears purse. When it is done, I'll put a three pound weight into the purse and see how it holds up! :crown: What I like about this cord which is different from knitted cords I have made in the past, is that it seems to have less give. But I'll let you know.

Just ordered all my yarn to make several of these as Christmas gifts. I figure I better get started now since I have so many projects that I intend to make this year! :D

I started to watch Mikey's video and think it will be easy to accomplish as long as I take my time.

lilamomof4 wrote:I finished my purse. The handles were the hardest part. I watched a video that someone posted on how to do the handles. I thought mine came out looking different than the original pattern. Looking back at the video again, I notice the "author" is crocheting left handed. Would this be why mine seem a little different? I really like the look of the purse though and the handles turned out just fine. Thanks for the video. I never would have thought to remove the hook by pulling the hook end first. I kept trying to pull the hook through 8 loops and kept getting snagged. LOL. Thats what happens when you dont think outside the box I guess.

lilamomof4 - I love your colors!!! Beautiful! :inlove: :bravo:

Went to Hancock Fabrics and bought my handles. Now to sit and work out how to attach them. I also bought some magnetic clasps to help hold things together once I get my lining sewn in.

I just made a little purse with a long shoulder strap so that it can be worn like a satchel. It works very well. I even put a three pound weight in it. I made the strap the same way as the mermaid tears strap. It is perfect! I'll post a picture when I get a chance. :D

I made this purse with just a square of crocodile stitch folded in half and with long straps so it can be worn over the shoulder. It is for a friend who said she wanted a smaller Mermaid Tears Purse with a long strap so she can carry just a few things she needs on her Mexico vacation at the end of the month.

Here's another pic with the lining showing.
