That is a lovely, vintage mohair yarn you've got there! :inlove:
It is worsted weight, so just look online for knitting patterns that will work for worsted weight mohair yarn. You'll find lots of options that way.

Vintage Cameo yarn

Postby mokiemaxie » Sun Mar 11, 2012 2:38 pm

Would this be the appropriate place to ask if anyone might have a skein of Bernat
Cameo, 80%wool, 20%alpaca, Lavender heather color for sale. This yarn is discontinued and there just isn't enough to finish my sweater. Thank you for reading this.

You can also try ebay or amazon. There are people that sell vintage stuff there quite often. You should also give etsy a look. Someone there may have it.

Bernat History & Vintage Yarns

Postby Shandeh » Mon Mar 19, 2012 4:11 pm

I just LOVE to come across vintage Bernat yarns. I buy them, and add them to my collection, because I have a soft spot in my heart for Bernat. I also like finding vintage Bernat patterns to go with the yarns, and enjoy reading the history of Bernat online, and in their pattern books.

In one of my vintage Bernat pattern books, I found a full page article about how Emile Bernat started the company. Very interesting. While searching the internet for more information, I found old copyright images and stories about the original Bernat Mill as well. So cool!

It's especially satisfying when I find a vintage skein of Bernat yarn, and see the logo, which helps me put a date on the yarn.

Here are some of the vintage Bernat yarns I've collected.

Occasionally, friends will give me Bernat yarns that they come across in thrift stores. Nice! :D

OH Shandeh! that is so cool! :cooldude: :reading: My husband has been calling me a knitting nerd and always finds it amusing when I borrow his laptop to take a shot of my latest creation. When I tell him about your Vintage Bernat yarn collection I am sure he will agree with me that you have surpassed my affectionate obsession :notworthy:

Yay! Nice to find a fellow yarn geek!
I don't know what it is about vintage yarn, but it always steals my heart. :cloud9:
I think there must be some fiber enthusiasts in my ancestry.

It's the connection with all those women before us who took pieces of thread and crafted something beautiful....or utilitarian....something that enriched their lives and the lives of their loved ones....out of virtually nothing! There is a school of thought that says having something beautiful around one is as important to the soul as food is to the body.

And that got a bit deep and philosophical! Vintage yarn makes me think of my grandmother....who did create beautiful things from practically nothing.
