Pattern Degree of Difficulty Ratings

Postby europa66 » Wed Mar 14, 2012 2:14 pm

I've noticed that a few of the motifs we've done in the Crochet Along have been rated "Intermediate". Would the Bernat patterns listed on the site be rated using the same degree of difficulty? I'm starting to feel more confident and would like to try a project rated "intermediate" on the Bernat site.

Just thought that maybe these patterns might be a little above my skill level at this point?

Also, I just want to say what a cool place this is! People are so helpful and accomodating.

Thanks!

How well were you able to complete the CAL Intermediate clues? Was it easy enough for you or were you confused at first?
Something to remember, Bernat patterns did not have charts with them at one time, this is something new for them. So if you are using the chart to help you through the Intermediate clue you may not be ready for their site patterns. I do not want to scare you off, Intermediate is not as hard as it sounds. You could always open a pattern you are interested in and read it through and see how Greek it looks to you.
Intermediate patterns are more interesting to work in the long run. It may also require you to pay slightly more attention to the pattern. But it should never be truly difficult.
Advanced usually have real shaping and gauge becomes extremely important.

We're using the same standards to label the CAL clues and the patterns on the website. Here's a breakdown of what they mean.

Thanks for your help, Karenarp. Great considerations. And Jen, the rating chart was very helpful.

I've really enjoyed the Crochet Along so far, and as of yet, have found the motifs fun to do. The trickiest for me was the 3rd with the centre star. But I haven't gotten stuck so much as challenged.

Thanks again. :)
