I think I'll put velcro on the lining instead of a zipper I am not sure yet what should be best. Anyway, the purse is coming along nicely.

I have never felt velcro was kind to yarns of any kind! Maybe felted? If the latch doesn't come onto the velcro just right every time it will snag and then there will be a real mess soon, and after all that work, that seems a shame to me. If you really do want to use velcro, you can try this tip I used on my winter coat last year when I wore it with a scarf. I put a matching sized square of very cheap / thin felt (from dollar store, cheapest felt ever sold there!) and really rubbed it on. A bit of the holding texture was still there with not enough power to damage my scarf
At least consider how the velcro may damage the purse [or handle if it gets in the way] before going that route. A zipper may be harder to install but would be more pleasing down the road. Or you could make loops as button holes and put a few buttons along the edge. Or find a good snap or magnet pair.
Sometimes an idea seems so good, and sometimes you need someone to get you on the right track and let you realize that it is not so good.
Really I have not even thought of it! not even for a second. Now, I am sure Velcro would make a mess.
Thank you for your help,

you have good ideas to choose from and maybe I'll take my time and put a zipper
