I will have to check how to make these cotton balls. that should give a little plus in selling our MK make up remover

Especially if the party is interested in being environmental or economical!
And they seriously can use up very soft cotton scraps and take so very little time to make.

My brother is a police officer in Charlotte now so I am hoping to get there more often. :D

If you go to Cottage Yarn, tell my cousin hello! :)

I sure will!

I was able to do one in about a minute. I shared it at my weekly meeting and it was a hit!

Coming to my neck of the woods, eh? :) We should meet for coffee.

There are several very nice yarn shops in the Charlotte area.

Charlotte Yarn - great selection, nice part of town.

Yarnhouse - interesting yarns, in an artsy modern area called "NoDa". you'll find lots of fun, energetic (sometimes eccentric) people walking along the streets there.

Cottage Yarn - great selection, friendly staff, in a small quiet town called Mint Hill, just outside of Charlotte. (my cousin Sara owns this place. she's awesome.)

There are other shops as well, but those are my favorites. (Cottage Yarn is where I usually go to buy fancy yarn, because it's closest to where I live, and my cousin owns the place!) ;)

I need to check a few of these out. I hardly ever get into Charlotte for yarn. I tend to stay in Concord. :scared:

Yeah, come on down! There's a lot of yarny goodness all over Mecklenburg County.

My first attempt at knitting. :) by generationsue, on Flickr

This is the pattern I am using:
The Handicrafter Cotton Stripes - Dishcloth (knit).

Are you new to knitting? Try going to you tube and search for videos on Continental Knitting. You get to hold the yarn almost identical to crochet. This has saved me and helped me so much to get the knack for knitting. I too am new and am still learning. There are many ways to hold the yarn in continental - just find one, if you don't like it, look up a different one, eventually you will find one you like more than others and if you are like me, you will soon find your own style of holding it with your left hand.
There really are a ton of videos. I watched a few dozen (sound off most of the time - I just needed the visual) Maybe you will get it faster than I did!
I also found I love casting on the Bernat way, so easy! I hate the long tail and the thumb cast on. They are awkward for me to achieve. I used the video included in the KAL clues threads
Very nice job so far! Don't give up!

Thank you so much! What wonderful tips. I will surely look in to those videos! I will also have to look at the Bernat casting. I am using a learn to knit book/kit I bought my 7 year old daughter. It is pretty hard to teach knitting when I don't know how :) Thanks for the encouragement!

Beautiful work! Your stitches are nice and even. Don't worry about the cast on. It's the hardest part, and will get better with experience. As karenarp recommended, it would be a good idea to learn different cast ons and stitching techniques, until you find the one that is right for you.

Thanks! I really love the way it is turning out.

Finished all of the rows! Now to figure out how to take the washcloth off the needle without unraveling it! :)

Looks great! Casting off is really easy...knit two stitches onto your right needle. Take your first stitch and pass it over the second, leaving one stitch on your right needle. Knit another stitch from your left needle onto your right and pass the first stitch over the second one. repeat untill all stitches from left needle are gone. You will have one stitch left on the right needle. Remove it from the needle and tie off just as in crochet. :)

Good luck!
