pillow patterns needed

Postby pufpen » Mon Feb 06, 2012 6:39 pm

Can anyone help me with a resource? I am trying to find a Bernat Danish Bulky Yarn Pattern for pillows. The original kit product # was WM 630. I KNOW THE YARN IS NOT AVAILABLE. But I do have a copy of the Harlequin Pattern and the Crochet Weave pattern. The kit cover I have shows the Checkerboard and the honeycomb pattern on the pillows pictured. I don't have those patterns. There are 6 patterns, because I made all 6 pillows. One is a knit with a butterfly pattern to it. There originally were off white and grey color yarns in the kits. Pak # 0631(grey-butterfly and stockinette ), Pak 0632(I have that pattern, and pak 0630( honeycomb and checkerboard patterns). if anyone could tell me where I can get the 630 and 631 patterns , I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance for any help.

Alternate Vintage Bernat 11" octagon pattern

Postby dogfoster » Sat Feb 25, 2012 10:36 pm

I'm in love with this one and made it for my fourth MC CAL clue 2. It is much easier that it looks. In fact I did not have to rip it rip it at all unlike clue #2 pattern which I have done so many times to get 11" I have it memorized.
-If you are working from your own yarn stash and have lots of extra, you may want to try it.
-If you bought the exact amount recommended by the CAL people, don't do it with your CAL yarn, at least yet, because you might need the yarn to finish their pattern.
-It is not reversible, I mean the back looks OK, but not reversible like the motifs we have done so far.
-All that extra verbiage in the middle of round 7 is treble two together.
-I changed round 9 and deleted a lot of bobbles. Mine always look like knots.
-Changed round 10 to dc,ch1, etc. and kept same corners as CAL 2.
-DC'd in round 11 and it came out to 11" with no tugging.
-The more color changes, more ends to weave in!

So I am going to give myself a badge for CAL clue 2 even though I sort of changed it.
Also, thanks to whoever suggested hanging the blocking stuff on a door, that is just what I did! The cats haven't figured out how to get up there yet!

Looky what I found on a random internet search for something totally unrelated.

Vintage Bernat patterns for afghans .. crochet and knit!

You can buy the digital version or scroll down for the free printable version. I copied and pasted instructions into my Word program and saved them on my computer.

Don't know how my clue two ended up here. Anyway, tried the motif for the vintage rose pattern finally. My neighbor has some seriously pink knock out roses, same color. Was thinking about maybe making him an afghan out of this, but decided it would take too long. Might stitch the two big motifs together and make a purse for his gardening enthusiast mom instead. If that goes easily with lining and strap and all, might make some bags for Christmas gifts. Anyway, it is very thick if you are looking for something warm. If you have done the CAL, then all of the stitches in this one are pretty much the same as you have already done.Image

Absolutely gorgeous. The colors are perfect. This would make a beautiful, one of a kind afghan. :bravo:

Re: Questions

Postby lialab » Thu Jun 21, 2012 12:12 pm

I've been through my mother's old craft books and I found a 1979 Bernat book. It is Linette by Bernat and has very nice sweaters and cardigans, among other things, that could be very well in style today. My question is what yarn can I use instead of Linette?

I have 20 skeins of that vintage yarn. It's lovely!

You can read about the yarn on this Ravelry page:
http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/bernat-linette
It's 28% Acrylic, 27% Rayon, 27% Linen, and 18% Nylon
Sportweight 5 ply (12 wpi)
100 yards per skein (91 meters)
Gauge 6 sts per inch, with a size US 5 (3.75mm) knitting needle

That should give you enough info to make a good substitution. Good luck!

Vintage Christmas Stocking kit

Postby Terry890 » Tue Oct 23, 2012 2:56 pm

I am hunting for a christmas stocking kit directions from the 1950's that Bernat made. It has a candle, tree and wreath on the stocking. It is knitted in green, red, and white.

Thanks,
Terry890
