Pot scrubber

Been looking at the dish clothes on the Bernat CAL forum. I still cannot figure out if people actually use them for anything or are they just for show. Anyway, I wash at least 18 metal pet food bowls every day by hand, and what I needed was a pot/bowl scrubber. Looked on net, lots of materials to choose from- plarn, jute,acrylic, tulle, mesh bags oranges are sold in, cotton. Keeping in mind that the longer and twistier the stitches, the better for scrubbing, I chose jute, nylon construction twine, and the scratchiest acrylic yarn I could find and made this, about 7 " d.
Will give it a try tonight when I wash all those bowls. I do have some matching cotton yarn, and will make matching dish cloth and see if I use a dishcloth for anything. Sort of funny, this pot scrubber matches my cheap kitchen curtains, and they are the only two things in this house that match. Glad I finally have a co ordinated set of something!

I use mine every day! I never buy dishcloths anymore, because they just don't work as well (or look as nice) as the ones I can make myself.

Guess I am a sponge person at heart for washing dishes, though if I make a move to smop around the counter top and stove, I use an old washcloth. I do use a little bleach in the suds too so hoping the cotton does not fade too much. I did make a linked treble dish towel using some Bernat cotton baby yarn and that is just heavenly soft to dry my hands on. Doesn't match the potscrubber and curtains though!

My grandmother taught me to never use sponges since you cannot wash them or rinse them out very well. She was a dish cloth person through and through. It rubbed off on me and I personally cringe and find it disgusting when I am in friends homes and only see a sponge. Shudder. There are some dishcloth patterns that I would never make cuz they simply are not functional. I only ever had one cotton fade terribly on me, for the most part they retain their initial colour. You can toss them into the laundry on hot or cold. They take one heck of a beating. Don't leave a trail behind them when wiping counters. Scrub the floor gloriously. Do a number on tea stains in china. I cannot use bleach so I just grab my trusty dishcloth and with a little elbow grease the stains are gone pronto as if you had used bleach. With the right design the scrubbing power a dishcloth gives is powerful. If it is too lacy it will be useless.
I sincerely hope your sunflower worked great for you! It looks like a great 'scrubby' design!

Reporting in on pot/bowl scrubber. Give it A+ for scrubbability, and F for convenience. I deliberately choose nylon and acrylic thinking they would dry very quickly, but it does not easily dry out, and sink space at a premium to have soppy thing lurking around. It may find new home at farm where I have been helping out. Will keep the curtains though.

Really? In my neck of the woods, I am thankful that where I visit, the house has not been foreclosed, that there is some food to eat, and would never notice with what the dishes were washed. Different perspective I guess. For the people that have dishwashers, they usually wash sponges in them, so they are cleaned and I guess disinfected fairly well. I don't have one so that is why I use some bleach.

Really? In my neck of the woods, I am thankful that where I visit, the house has not been foreclosed, that there is some food to eat, and would never notice with what the dishes were washed. Different perspective I guess. For the people that have dishwashers, they usually wash sponges in them, so they are cleaned and I guess disinfected fairly well. I don't have one so that is why I use some bleach.

I think it's cute! You could use it as a decoration for the curtains.... Like on a tieback or at the top corners....or even stuck onto a cookie jar, canister or ustensil holder.

Speaking of pot scrubbers, look what I found this week! I don't have a pattern though to make more. Has anyone seen this pattern on the website? I hadn't seen this "scrubby" type yarn before, and I am looking at the white Cotton and label says "scents". So I stuck my nose into the skein and it smells good! Don't know what the scent is, though! There's all kinds of things to clean with but the important thing is to get the job done.

I was at Michael's yesterday and saw this book, Garden Grows. It is a Lily Sugar'n Cream 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" soft cover book. At the bottom of the cover it says, "Featuring Lily Sugar'n Cream Scrubby". (#571004) It is full of hot pads and dishcloths. There are several other projects: totes, tea cozy, bath mat, mug cozy, washcloth and Scrubby bath mitt. Nearly all of the projects are shown on 8 color pages. It will give anyone plenty of ideas. The Scrubby yarn is not used in all of the projects. Many of the items could be nice for gifts, boutique items to sell, and definitely for yourself!

The pattern for the dishcloth called daisy dishcloth can be found on the Michaels website. Hope to find time tonight to give it a try. Have a bridal shower coming up and plan to make one along with a few regular dishcloths as part of the gift.
