SavvySherri,
The center bunches up like a cone, One was too big and another too small.

I had the same problem starting with the sc 11 stitches. In fact at first I just tried a different pattern. But then I took BigFunFam's advice and did 2 treble cr togther, ch 5, 2 trc together, ch 5.....for the center and it worked much better for me. Someone else tried ch 10 instead of 11.
And some people had no problem with the ch 11. I would try the trc tog. method and see if you like that. As long as what you are doing is consistent for the 6 motifs, it does not need to look exactly like the ones posted either, no one will know the difference. If you still get frustrated with it, you can either repeat a motif that you have already done using the colors for clue 6, or find a doily pattern and add eight corners to that. Several people have done that, maybe they can share the link to their doilies with you. You have lots of options so do not give up now!

Dogfoster,

Thank you soooo much for the advice, I will try that. I really don't want to give up at this stage. It is really great having a site like this where you can get advice and help from others.

Not to be off topic, but, If you do not know what tessellation is, you should look it up on the Internet. It is the basis for Moorish decorative arts for probably thousands of years, Escher was fascinated with it as are many artists and mathematicians, in nature honeycombs are tessellated, and they are the strongest unit. You do not need to be a math whiz to appreciate their beauty, and if you do get the math, so much the better.

My first thought without looking anything up when I hear tessalate is Doctor Who!

My daughter agreed, "squares and octagons do not tessalate". My first thought when she said it was...'You've been watching too much Dr Who!

Well, I can hardly believe that this project is almost completed. I am looking forward to putting all of the puzzle pieces together so I can see the finished product. I am still not sure as to whom I will give this project to.

He likes to explain how it all works, I just like making "pretty stuff" with yarn and a hook!!

He's right. They don't tessellate. This is one part that has left me wondering if we'll be having a very interesting shape along the edge, or if we're going to create a very unique border, or if maybe we're going to make some other shape to fill the edges or what.... :ugeek:

My husband and I fiddled around with arranging them in a google document last night. I was convinced there was no way to fit them together after working at it all day. But we did find a way to make them all fit! So now I'm eager to find out if I have the shape right. I haven't even tried to guess how to arrange all of the motifs yet. Not too much longer to wait - I hope!
