Crochet-Along Week 7

Postby Jen » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:03 am

This week is a break week for the crocheters so those of us who are behind have a chance to catch up!

If you haven’t started blocking your motifs, now is the perfect time to start – and that’s what we’ll be talking about this week. We have a video tutorial on blocking motifs in case you’ve never tried blocking before. If you have, why not share your experiences with the board? We’d love to see what tips and tricks everybody has come up with!

Why is blocking important?
When making an afghan out of squares, it’s important that each motif is consistent in two ways:
• Size
• Shape

Blocking your motifs will make it much easier to line up your stitches for sewing together. Right now your squares might have sides that aren’t perfectly straight – maybe they’ve been pulled a little, or they look squiggly. With blocking, you can turn those squiggly squares and octagons ones made of beautiful angles, so when it’s time to seam you’ll be ready to go!

Skills You’ll Learn
Tips:
  • A great place to start is the Blocking Motifs thread, so if you’re looking for some extra advice you should check it out!list]

Any questions? You can discuss the clue here!

When you’ve finished your squares, come show us what you think the order of the motifs will be in the "Crochet-Along Week 7: Blanket Possibilities" thread!

When you're done blocking all of your squares, you deserve a new badge! This one is more of a participation badge since this is a rest week.

Just open the User Control Panel's "Signature" page. In the field where you type your signature, add the code below and you'll be able to show off your progress! It's a good idea to replace last week's badge with this one so your signature isn't cluttered

I'm disappointed too. Those that need to catch up- have forever to do that. Now I have to start another project cause I can't sit around and wait another week.

Does this mean no more motifs - all that's left is sewing it together?

Guess I'll fool around with the layout seeing I have everything as blocked as they are going to be blocked. I store them in ziplock bags so they get all messed up and out of shape when I store them. So on to my layout!

Was hoping for the layout this week! Very disappointed! :tears:

I knew this was coming, that's why I only did the 2 MC octagons last week! This means I have 4 in color A to do this week so I can still feel like I am working on it even though it is a catch up week!

I guess I get to learn to block this week. Have my t-pins, my foam mats, and my steamer. More time to work on my son's chess blanket and do that 7 hour drive (round trip) to Cullowhee, NC on Friday to get my girlie from school for spring break. She's my crochet buddy and I miss her when she's up at school.
