Knit-Along Clue 6 (Week 7)

Postby Kaleigh » Wed Mar 28, 2012 10:00 am

You’re almost there! This week we’re knitting the left and right edging. You don’t need the circular needles yet because you’ll be knitting two long strips and sewing the finished edging to the sides of your afghan.

This week is full of new techniques: there’s a chart to work from, and you’ll be learning the stitches ssk (slip, slip, knit) and yo (which means “yarn over” instead of “why hello there, my friend!”). Don’t worry, we’ve got a video for each of these!

You’ll need Contrast A.

Skills You’ll Learn & Use
Tips
  • This clue has both written instructions and charts available, so you can decide which is easiest for you to learn and work from!
  • Remember to stretch the edgings slightly when measuring the final length against the sides of your afghan to avoid any ‘ripples’ when you sew on the edging.
If you have any questions, this thread is the place to ask and answer!

Please do not post any photos to this thread. They belong in the "Knit-Along Clue 6 (Week 7): Spoilers and Photos" thread!

When you're done sewing together your afghan, why not pat yourself on the back and add a badge to your signature?

Just open the User Control Panel's "Signature" page. In the field where you type your signature, add the code below and you'll be able to show off your progress! It's a good idea to replace last week's badge with this one so your signature isn't cluttered :)

Oh good, a lacy edge. My daughter will be so happy.

Wow! I can't wait to see the border on the afghan! I like that there is a design in the border. Each clue has really been fun and interesting!

Don't feel bad as your not the only one behind. I still have half my squares to block and than sew together and it will be the weekend before I can do anything more.

Heck, even I only have half of my squares done! Everybody knits at a different pace, so don't worry, you're not alone!

I can't wait to start the border and see exactly what it looks like. :P Even though I haven't even started sewing it together yet. I can't seem to get motivated to do that yet. It's always my least favorite part of any knitting project, plus I haven't decided which design to put it together in. :idonno: I didn't really care for the sugested one, and just haven't had the time to play around with it enough to find one I love. :inlove: I've got a couple I like, but haven't found that one that jumps out at me. :notworthy:

It's always reassuring to read the forums comforting to know I am not alone in being behind. Was getting discouraged motivated to keep going still working on 3 & 4.

I am still behind too, but I hope to be up to sewing by the end of this week - which is overly optimisitic since I have 5 squares for 3 left and will . It will be my first time sewing. That is where I usually give up on projects. I feel confident that I will make it through that on this one.

Design Question: my squares ended up a little smaller, but I like bigger blankets, so I am thinking of doing the pattern repeat for this 4 times instead of 4. Do you think that will look okay? I am thinking it will add a little width. :knit: :knit:
