I'm so glad to have a week to catch up! I've also started doing this blanket in one color so this will give me plenty of time to get ready to put both blankets together. Really enjoying this crochet-a-long, much more so than the first one :cloud9:

Yay! Time to block! Knowing that there would be a break week, I have put off blocking for this week specifically. Normally, I do not block blankets but, after seeing the motifs for CAL blocked by others, I feel things will go a lot more smoothly and look nicer if I do so.

I am also disappointed :tears: I was very much looking forward to sewing the pieces together! Like the others I am wondering what I will do for the week?! I guess we have no choice but to wait till next Wed.

Oh my goodness, I was just reading some of the comments. Hey, lets just all have fun, appreciate the wonderfulness of this event, the wonderfulness of all the help when it's needed, the friendly staff, all the time and efforts that have been made to make this an enjoyable experience, and be thankful that we can all be participating in this, regardless of what level of experience you have. Have fun! :hellogoodbye:

same here, stitchychic. Well, i do block for certain things, like clothes, especially if they're curling, but these I haven't.

anyone ever blocked a large one-piece blanket? I'm going to HAVE to block the orange mandala blanket i'm working on in order to get it to lie properly. but it's big (about 5' diameter), i have to use steam, and I dont' have a non-wooden surface anywhere handy I can do that one...can't use carpeted floors, can't use hardwood floors, can't use wooden kitchen table. suggestions? weather's not nice enough to do it outside on the deck..and that's wood too! when i was a teenager I once put a towel down on my mom's good antique mahogany dining room table and did my ironing on that cuz I was too lazy to get out the ironing board.....boy did i catch hell for THAT, and for good reason. I put a permanent white spot on the table which is still there (it's my table now).

Shandeh posted her star afghan that she blocked after it was finished but I don't remember what thread it was--really unique method of blocking.

So happy for the catch up week! I have been distracted by learning to knit :). Still have 1 block to finish...

Ohhh, and so excited to try the full layout! I'll be back to share :)

Happy week everyone ;)

Here, here!

I love this CAL and I welcome the chance to catch up. I don't have a lot of time to crochet so I appreciate this week to finish up a couple pieces from the last three clues.

As far as blocking, I have never blocked before either but it has made such a difference, it's amazing. And I'm thrilled that I learned to block--it's not near as hard and/or time consuming as I would have thought.

Thank you Bernat for yet ANOTHER new skill learned! :bravo:

Kodikins wrote:For those of you complaining about the "break" - shame on you for not paying attention at the beginning. It was quite clear that there would be at least one of these catch-up weeks for those of us who just can't spend our entire day crocheting. And this break is much appreciated by me so that I can get caught up like the rest of you.
Now I'll step off my soap-box.

I don't spend my entire day crocheting, but I am a quick crocheter and a quick stitcher. Even though the whole "going into the side thing" gave me some need for extra thought and time, I still only needed about 30-35 minutes for completing each one. Now that this is the "dark" week between production weekends of my show, I'm back to my usual sit on the couch and watch tv while crocheting for about 2 hours every night. Sunday starts attendance at baseball games (2 sons, 4 teams between them at a 3-1 ratio), and I am always crocheting or stitching while waiting for my daughter's dance classes and rehearsals to finish. So it's not "sitting around all day," it's taking advantage of down time to do something productive with our hands. :D

I usually do no block my squares, but since we have the time I'm going to give it a try. Who knows, I might like the end product. :idonno:
