Remember to stretch the edgings slightly when measuring the final length against the sides of your afghan to avoid any ‘ripples’ when you sew on the edging.

Good advice!

The result is quite satisfying and looks lovely on my diningroom table. I am well into knitting the first side edge and am wondering if there are going to be top and bottom edges, too. :knit:

Of course I don't know for sure, but I'm figuring that we will have bottom and top borders to do eventually. My guess is that we'll pick up stitches on the bottom edge to knit the bottom border and likewise with the top border. But like I said, it's just a guess. What do you all think? :knit: :cloud9:

Before Wednesday's clue, I thought we would be picking up stitches on the four sides of the afghan to make the border. Unfortunately, my wrist is bothering me from all of the needlework putting the 24 squares together, so, as much as I do not want to, I will have to slow down on knitting the border. :knit:

Never done this before! wish me luck:) :scared:

:hellogoodbye: That is how I sewed my squares and it turned out just fine. I followed charoks suggestion to sew "bump to bump" and I used the darker color yarn when seaming a dark color against a light color. Good luck! You'll see how quickly it goes. :)

thank you for the tips!! I am needing them :helpme: I think I need to seam tightly , not loosely like when I first started out.

Oh, that's a pain! (oops - pun not intended!). I hear you on that. I had to slow down during a couple of those intense knitting weeks for the same reason. It's better to be comfortable! Even just a couple of days off of the repetitive hand movements helps.

Hi zhanie,

Just don't go to the other extreme by joining too tightly. Something between loose and tight will do just fine. And only stitch through the "bumps" that the yarn has created on the sides of both squares to be joined. Good luck to you! :)

Like Marilyn said, be careful not to go too tight. Your fabric will pucker if you do that.
Seaming should be done at a happy medium, between loose and tight.

I usually try to make my seaming yarn flow at the same tension as my knitting or crochet was done. This way, it blends in with the project, making the seams difficult to see.

I am going back to redo all eight of the Clue 3 squares, which don't fit in well with the others when blocked. Completion will be some time away as a result.

I am sure you will get there. I ripped half of my clue 1 squares as I used a stripe yarn and it just didn't look good when layed out. Those look better, now. I waited on the knitting of the second 4 of clue 3, again waiting for the final layout. So that is where I am. Down to the last three of clue 3. With the holiday, a birthday and one son with his family coming for the weekend I won't get much more done this week. But for me there is no hurry. I am okay with working this a bit later. Take care and enjoy.

I just hope it isn't seed stitch! I really, really hate doing that one....these edgings are driving me nuts because of seed stitching  It looks great but grrrrrrr........not my favourite to knit.
