Leejoyce62 wrote:I love the texture and look of this purse but the size is too small. So I started one with 168 chains. Brown for the base rounds, and a fall colors variegated for the "leaves",(have a limited amount of the variegated and it's discontinued). Extra tails to be tucked,UGH. When it gets to be about 15" tall I will band off the top, add handles and a strap and button closure, then make a rectangular bottom to attach the bag to. Add lining in canvas duck so that it can be a shopping bag without distorting the "leaves". Voila! A fall purse/shopping bag in :crown: King size. I am also working on a pattern for an xmas one with holly leaves and bobble/ popcorn berries, i can't decide which yet. Might make a nice gift bag, hmmmm, now I am thinking a round bottom for a wine bottle gift bag and a top that has a drawstring, and maybe use this stitch in a fuzzy mohair to make angel wings for a tree topper. Oh I just don't have enough hands to do all the things I want!! :hellogoodbye: :hellogoodbye:

oh my! The possibilities are endless :)

Yes! :D :D but how do I choose??? :tears:  My UFO box is now in a BIG plastic trunk( mostly afghans I lost interest in) and My stash takes up 3 MORE BIG plastic trunks. I think I need a FROG DAY! Rip apart all the projects I have no intention of finishing. Then I can start new ones with less guilt  (maybe) :hellogoodbye:

I've finally started my purse. I'm hoping it speeds up a little once I get used to making the mermaid tears.

Was able to finally sit down tonight to work on my first purse. Either I'm not reading the instructions/chart correctly or something is off...

I chain 84, join and start the DCs. If I ch3 and use the instructions that will count as my first DC. I need 84 DCs so I do 83 more dc stitches.

When round three is done I should have 13 tears, but I can only fit 12. To get 13 tears I would need 86 DCs, if I follow the pattern.

What am I not doing correctly????? :hrmm:

here I have copied and pasted something I wrote on page three of this thread:

It makes sense to me that there would only be 12 scales because each scale uses up 7 dcs and 7 x 12 = 84. (There are 84 dcs on the first round.):)
keep going! I love seeing all the different pictures of purses that are the same and different. :crown:
There were lots of questions about this when we first started the Mermaid Tears Purse crochet-a-long, I think you know what you are doing :bravo:

My daughter's birthday falls on Easter this year, so we celebrated Saturday and I gave her the Mermaid Tears Bag. I think she liked it! :cloud9:

I will admit she looked very stylish the next day walking into church.
