Knit Slouchy Lace Beret KAL

Postby Shandeh » Mon Apr 02, 2012 3:11 pm

I am so excited to start up our new Knit-Along for the month of April!
Videos for techniques here: Slouchy Lace Hat Stitch Videos

Bernat has designed a very lovely Slouchy Lace Beret for us to knit. It's designed to work best with Bernat Satin or Satin Sparkle. http://www.bernat.com/pattern.php?PID=6311

I've chosen Bernat Satin Sparkle in the color "Diamond" for mine.

The hat is knit in the round, which is one of my favorite techniques. If you've never knit in the round before, give it a try with this beautiful hat! I will be here for you, every step of the way.

Who wants to join our knit-along?
Both Satin and Satin Sparkle are on sale right now, so you can make several berets in lots of fun colors!

I've never done an intermediate pattern before, is this one ok to start with? I've done plenty of beginner and easy stuff... Also can this be done on circular needles instead of double-points? TIA for your help!

Just for feedback sake I wanted you to know that normally I would have jumped in on this one. However, this month I'm packing to move and I have two knit projects and the CAL that I'm desperate to finish before I move (along with some sewing) so I have to pass. I really want to make this hat so I'll probably jump on board later, when I'm done moving and everyone else is long done this one!

I really appreciate all these little projects. It's fun to have someone motivating me! Thank you :bravo:

I think hats are a perfect way to step into intermediate knitting, because they are a small project with quick results that are very satisfying. Once you learn to knit in the round with double points and circulars, all KINDS of projects open up to you.

I would recommend trying double points, to see how you like them. I really enjoy using them, and love how my projects turn out. Some people prefer using two circulars or one very long circular (Magic Loop method) for parts of patterns that call for double pointed needles. I've tried two circulars before, and didn't like that method. I also tried Magic Loop, and hated it. But some people swear by those options. I'm very happy with double points.

At certain parts of our hat, you will be able to use a 16" or 20" circular needle. But the top of the hat will need to be done with double points, two circulars, or one long circular in the Magic Loop method.

Welcome to the Bernat Forum! :hellogoodbye:
Thanks for joining in our KAL. I think we will really enjoy making our slouchy berets together. :D

After reading the pattern today, I think I'm going to start my hat with a 16 inch, US size 4 circular needle.
Casting on 96 stitches will be simple on a circular needle, and the stitch marker will be easy to place and carry over as well. I'm not sure if my beret will fit my big noggin, since I have such thick hair. If it doesn't fit, I will save it as a present for my son's girlfriend. She will wear it well.

Oh! this is a perfect learning project for me! However I'm a bit obsessed with my KAL at the moment. I'll have to remember this one, for when I have time. ( I think plum would be a nice colour for this beret... I am going to visit Ireland this summer... hmmm, it may be my new Ireland hat! :crown: )

Lucky you! I've always dreamed of going to Ireland. My family came from there in 1772.
I think plum will be beautiful with that design. :inlove:
