How-To Videos for Our Beret

Postby Shandeh » Mon Apr 02, 2012 10:38 pm

Since some of you might be waiting for your yarn to arrive, I think we should wait a few days to start our KAL.
Do you think that Saturday, April 7th would be a good day to start?

In the meantime, we can talk about our color choices, and help each other learn techniques we will need for the hat.

Joining in the Round - Shandeh's Video
Using circular needles for knitting in the round - Shandeh's Video
Using double pointed needles for knitting in the round - Shandeh's Video
Reading a lace chart - Video by Bernat

Here are the stitches we need to learn/use for the hat:

K1tbl (knit one stitch through the back loop) - Shandeh's Video
K2tog (knit two stitches together) - Video
K3tog (knit three stitches together) - Shandeh's Video
K2togtbl (knit two stitches together through the back loop) - Shandeh's Video
M1 (make one extra stitch, using the bar between stitches) - Shandeh's Video
P2tog (purl two stitches together) and P3tog (purl three stitches together) - Shandeh's Video
Sl1 (slip one stitch knit-wise) and Sl1P (slip one stitch purl-wise) - Shandeh's Video
Sl1, K2tog, Psso (slip one knit-wise, knit two stitches together, then pass the slipped stitch over) - Video by Bernat
Ssk (Slip two stitches knit-wise, then pass back purl-wise, then knit through back loops together) - Video by Bernat
Yo (wrap yarn over - or bring yarn forward over needle) - Shandeh's Video

Luckily, there are several videos for our techniques that were already created by Bernat. I made the "join in the round" video back in 2007. Just recorded the rest of them this month. :)

Here are some more videos I made, that show our project in progress:

WELL .. smear me with jam and tie me to an anthill!!! I looked up magic loop and I'd say I'm hooked but that's crochet so instead ... I'M SOLD! I hate DP knitting and have always fussed with trying to make a circular work in those circumstance .. or I just avoided small circular knit projects and crocheted them instead.

This looks sooo easy. Gosh I love this forum and all the new things I'm learning! Who knew?? so many years thinking I'm an advanced crafter and I feel like a newbie with all I'm learning here

Thank you for the forum Bernat! :knit:

Awesome! SO glad you found a method for small knit projects that you appreciate. :D
But, I am NOT gonna smear you with jam or tie you to an anthill. Silly!

Another forum first timer here who has just printed off the instructions and will be joining - even though I already have two WIP's on the go :D

I must be weird because I LOVE working with DPN's, so this will be fun fun fun.

So glad I signed up for the Bernat newsletter otherwise I would have not found out about this KAL

I agree, after looking at the pattern, circular needles are much easier for me to use than double-pointed (I don't do socks). Sounds like a fun project :hellogoodbye:

I bought satin sparkle :notworthy: what a nice set that will make  Satin and satin sparkle are one of my favorite. So, another WIP on the go ;) I never had so many at the same time since January. :D

I would love to do this project for my "almost-a-teenager granddaughter". I'm in! This hat is perfect. I will be using circular needles.

I was reading the newsletter and had to chuckle at this:
Crochet along with us this week as we knit the Slouchy Lace Beret a t the Bernat Forums!
:P

The crochet version is so boring compared to the knit in my opinion
