Well, I redid 4 of the first five I did. Was freaked out for a week about it; by the end, I could do the pattern in my sleep. I classify that one as an Unfortunate Event and the number 3 still gives me the heebie-jeebies! I'm glad I got through it though because those squares are the focal point of the whole project for most layout options. And I commend those who came up with gorgeous layouts putting all 8 of those squares at the very longest edges! ;)

I was expecting something quite different so it was a lovely surprise to see such a nice pattern for the border.
Am a little slow getting the border done as I am now knitting a winter jersey for my Husband.

I'm pleased too and think it blends all the styles of the different stitches of the blocks together. I have a sweater to do for my hubby too. A beautiful dark green that will look Nice with his dark brown hair and eyes! :inlove:

Kayro wrote:Nearly through with one side, my squares were a little bigger than 9.5 and I need to know if the border
is to go to the top of the piece and match what is already there. I'm thinking the top and bottom will cover
all of the top, including the side pieces.

P.S. Please let this be the case so I can start on the other side

Has anyone answered this? My guess would be yes. We're to sew up the borders on both long sides, so the top and bottom Will have to go across the new, wider width.

Hey lialab, now is the moment of truth! Nothing like the present! Go ahead and take the jump. You'll fall in love with your piece as you watch it materialize before your eyes, and before you know it, you'll be all done! It took me about 5 hours for all the blocks. The borders Will be much faster.

Seed stitch is slow going, but it looks nice when it is done. It would make sense to have the top and bottom borders be seed stitch to go with the edges. For your sake, I hope it is not.

I have an anecdote to share. I took my border in to work today to show à friend, and she was fingering it and said "I just love the knobs on those - what are they - knots?". And of course she was referring to that seed stitch edge! I thought about these posts and how futzy it is to do. But it was Nice to know that someone thought it was just the most fabulous texture! :cloud9:

I ended up doing 25 repeats (for a total of 351 rows?) and it ended up about 58" long. My blanket is 59" long. The left border went on just fine with a bit of slight stretching. Each person's knitting is different so measuring is still your best bet, but maybe that will give you a general idea.

I think that sounds about right. When I got to halfway up the length (3 blocks), I had 13 of those small squares completed. I'm thinking about 4 little squares (14 row pattern sets) per one big block, plus a bit extra to stretch.

Don't be afraid of sewing, it really goes pretty quickly. And just think: you're almost done!

Hi
Is it necessary to block the borders before sewing to the afghan?
It is so pretty.

I guess it's one of those do as you wish times. I don't think I'll block mine. It's laying nicely and I don't want to flatten the texture. The directions don't really mention it.
