Florida Area

Postby Gladi719 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 6:27 pm

Recently moved to Florida in the Lakeland area. Would like to connect with others on the Bernat forums close to where I live. When I lived in Virginia I belonged to a knitting and crochet group. I really wish I knew others here that enjoy Knitting, crocheting and jewerly making as much as I do.

I can't believe there is no one on this forum from Florida. So sad. :tears:

Maybe there are a few people lurking who just haven't discovered this post yet! I still haven't looked at all of them yet. I don't live in Florida :tears: But my sister's inlaws and all their family do. My brother-in-law grew up in Florida and is a big Miami Dolphins fan. Oh, and I have a cousin living in Jacksonville! Let's see....I have been to Florida once and my mom's best friend was a native floridian.... I'm sure someone will turn up!

I am reading a really good novel (with a knitting theme....) that takes place on the Island of Cedar Key, off the west coast of Florida and near Gainesville. It sounds so lovely and it is a real place. In the book, ladies come from all over North America and even Europe to attend knitting retreats on this Island. I would love to do something like that!

I just now saw this topic! I live in Florida, in St. Petersburg (which is near Tampa). I'm a native Floridian, originally from Jacksonville. What is the name of the book about Cedar Key? I've been there, though not for years. It's a quaint little place to walk around antique stores and eat fresh seafood.

I just finished reading it. It's called Sunrise on Cedar Key, by Terri Dulong. She has written two others which I now want to read, and they all take place in Cedar Key. Thé other two are Casting About and Spinning Forward. She already announced à fourth, which may be available already. She has a bit of French too, in her books, which I love. You can check out her author page at www.terridulong.com

I love Cedar Key!!! Have you read the John D. McDonald book A Flash of Green? I grew up on the beach in Pinellas County and have only seen the green flash once--it is amazing!!!!! No beach where I now live in the mountains of Georgia!

I may have to look into those books. I love reading but I love knitting and crocheting better. I will be taking a nice long train ride in June so reading may be good when my hand get tired of knitting.

I love train rides because you can move around and do so much more than when in a car or a plane. A nice long trip sounds like a lot of fun.

Oh, I wish I could take a nice, long, romantic train ride! I sometimes watch "Murder on the Orient Express", just so I can see a beautiful train like that. I also have a DVD set called "Canada by Rail" that shows some nice footage of a transit train.

I rode on a small excursion train once, with my boys when they were little. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.
