I don't think that I would have grouped the colors that way... :hrmm:

I'm not feeling the final layout myself either. I don't even like any of the user posted layouts enough to commit to one even though they're all pretty, they're just not my cup of tea. I'm going to wait till next week to see how the border is going to work before I make a final decision, but at this point in the venture I'm tempted to pull it all out and make something entirely different. The Mitered Granny Square Throw looks nice and symmetrical so I may do that one...or the Stepping Waves Afghan, although I'd have to buy the proper needles to do it since I don't have any circular ones. Guess I'll just sit and think on it for a bit and see where that takes me.

So, I laid out my final afghan and I am wishing I had made the colors in different places. Oh well, it looks pretty the way it is. Now I have lots of ideas how my third one can be (I have a second one for my daughter).

Quickly laid out my squares during lunch break - couldn't wait to see a preview of the finished product!!!
Because of my color choices, i'm considering a slight variation (Clue 4 around the outside edges). I have all afternoon to contemplate this... then it's sewing time :)

THANK YOU!!! I agree as well. I thought i was all alone though. I wasn't in love with any of the guesses either. I did love last years when i saw the finished pictures. Wish i would have done that one. I also will wait to see what the border does to the look. I don't really have the patience to start over though. :(

I'm deciding where to put my off color clue #1 squares. I'm not sure if I like them in the middle of different flowers. Guess I'll play with it when I get that far. :hrmm:

While I love all the motifs and individual pieces (and learned a great deal along the way, even as a somewhat experienced crocheter), I have to admit if I had seen a finished picture of this I would have never started it. That being said, looking at the layout of my own pieces, I only hate one color choice. I have ordered two new skeins of yarn and will try to replace those pieces (one flower consisting of four octagons and one center) and see if that moves me a little better.

It's funny because I picked all my colors from the "Past Perfect" theme, except for one oddball (the gold). And to me that one oddball color looks better with the other colors than the one suggested for that theme (the mauve). Oh well...

Am also doing the KAL, but didn't start until a few weeks ago. So I was able to see the layout before picking my colors. So I am now more excited about working on and finishing that one than this one.

I like your variation much better; I may try that on mine as well.

Vallerisb - which color choice are you replacing?

Okay, here's my layout; I've still not quite decided about how Clue 5 turned out. I may go back and re-do them so that just the first two rows are contrasting colors and the rest of the rows are MC; I think that may fit in better with the rest of the blanket.

Lsog, I like your idea of putting the popcorn stitced pieces around the outside. I was contemplating doing that, too. It breaks up those seas of the same colors - my only problem is that my main color is Sun Drift and my clue 4 is Butter, so not a big difference. Wish I had made Celadon my Clue 4 pieces instead of clue 6. If I didn't hate doing Clue 6 so much, I might redo them, but I'm still not done with Clue 6 to start with, let alone with redoing them.
