I think the changes that you made really made a difference to the look. While the mauve does stand out more, it does look good with the other shades of pink. And the gold is a good compliment to the green. Before you redo the whole thing, perhaps you can try just one square of the lavendar and see how that would look against the other colors.

Thanks for your thoughts...I appreciate another opinion. However, I may not even have to redo a square...holding up the skeins to the other colors may work faster

Let me start by saying I really, REALLY love doing this CAL! And I have done each motif as close as possible to the original directions. However, the final layout just does not do it for me. I am way to "symmetrical" a person to be comfortable with it.
So after playing around with my motifs, I think I am settled on this one. I'll figure out what to do with the other 2 at a later time!

Here are my blocks in two layouts, the suggested one and the one I am probably going to use since I am not a big fan of large color blocks. I will have to make one more little square in the main color and I am not too sure about the little squares on the edges poking out. Oh well, I love the splashes of color all over it.

I plan to use the stitching method that we used on the 2010 CAL--it used the back loops but you went from one side to the other--it was great!!!!

All the colors look "warm" except for the mauve, which looks out of place to me. I bought lavender, since the room is mostly pink with accents of green and purple. The gold is the oddball, but looks good to me next to the other colors.

I also like the idea of moving clue #4 to the outside to break up some of the solid main color. I also moved the contrasting flower centers to the original flower, keeping them all one color. So far I think I like these two changes better...and even the mauve is starting to look better to me this way.

I like your changes. I haven't laid my pieces out yet, so if I don't like the 'original' I will try yours. :)

you are very creative, I like your mixed color, it fits very well with the layout. great job! :notworthy: I wish I would have thought of that one, oh well next time........Thanks for sharing the idea

WOW! I love your layout! I like it so much better than the solid colors. I am inspired to make another CAL using your idea ... I hope you don't mind :D

I love your this! I am not a fan of the suggested layout because of the large color blocks but with the blocks having more than one color in then it looks great. I don't think you need to change the clue #5 blocks, it looks amazing the way it is, some solid color looks nice.

So far this is my favorite design. I too am a symmetrical person so the original design seemed a bit wonky to me. I still don't know if I can live with the design or not......all that work gone to waste though is a shame. :idonno:
