CAL Clue #7 Help by mlmgates, on Flickr

It is taking me longer than I had hoped. Do you think it might be my help?

Its so funny how the kittys think we make these motifs just for them so of course they SHOULD be in the middle of them. I like you color choice.

My cats help flatten down my motifs while I work. I wonder if that is a good blocking technique

Hee hee! So precious!

Rows are done! Time to attach them together, but I wanted to get a sense of what my blanket will look like. I like the layout :) I just wish I had chosen colours that were more flower-like. Even though I have enough MC for the border, I might use my D colour instead. My favourite colour ended up being Greek Sea (the darker green); that would have been a nicer MC I think.

While Sir Spotacus didn't help with the crocheting or the blocking (I may have to try that next time Dour2005!), he certainly felt the need to inspect my work closely as soon as I laid it all out.

I know not many of you like safety pins, but I don't have enough stitch markers to help me out. Here is a sample of how I am prepping my strips for seaming
safety pins galore.JPG

I do find that the more pins you use the less they will pull on the yarn. And when I was first setting up strips and used my pins, I looped them into the corners, not onto the yarn, so the stress was minimal.
I seamed all my short edges along a strip using my lovely tails. Tucked those all in. Then measured out a long piece of yarn in any one of my colours (why does it matter what colour I use?). I went down my strip with the yarn and then added about a foot extra, tied it in half and looped/tied the half halfway up my strip. Took one of the two ends and worked towards the end. Removing my safety pins as I went. I had about 3 inches of yarn left over at the end, just enough to tuck in neatly
I figure if I can get one strip seamed to another strip in a day done I will be done before Wednesday and I am feeling slightly less rushed when I look at it that way. I am unhappy with how they join up in the corner, but overall, taking my time to set up where to place my mattress stitches makes the seaming go much faster.
Five long seams in total, half of one done, gotta prove my daughter wrong, gotta keep seaming!

I love this. Makes me want to unravel what I did & do over. :notworthy:

I wish we had been given a little hint as to the final pattern - I would have chosen different colors for the MC, A, B, C & D. As it stands now, I have a green 'flower' Yuck. :(

I do love the different patterns we crocheted and may use this to create another afghan.

Finished sewing my afghan together. The greens are slightly washed out from the flash. Here is the picture!

:bravo: I am just browsing. I made the KAL blanket and wanted to see what the CAL looked like. I have to say that I am envious of the beautiful blanket you-all have made. Every one is a work of art. May you enjoy them for many years. :hellogoodbye:

For the 2012 CAL I made a baby blanket using the first three clues. I used Bernat Softee Baby in Soft Lilac and Bernat Baby Coordinates in Soft Mauve for a monochromatic blanket. When it came to assembling it, I decided to use a braid stitch in white for a bit of contrast. As far as edging rounds, that has yet to be decided. Maybe white with a row of Soft Lilac in it.

Since I made two afghans in the 2010 CAL, there was no need to make a full-size afghan in this CAL. This shows one of my 2010 CAL afghans + pillow with the 2012 CAL baby blanket.

The patterns in the CAL reminded me of flowers and the sun. So I made a sun and flowers design using stash yarns and decorated the drab partition walls at my office. Green ribbon was used for stems & grass. Of course, then I had to have a butterfly. A hummingbird was added later. The ladies at work really like this. It would be easy to make an afghan later using the flowers.
