What's for Dinner?

If you feel like talking about something that isn't knit- or crochet-related, feel free to do so here.

stepping into the garden, and picking a tomato off the vine. I would then carry it inside, wash it off, and slice it up. Then, I would get two pieces of bread, spread them with Dukes mayonnaise, and cover a slice with tomato, sprinkle it with salt and pepper, put the other slice on top, and eat it.

Tomato sandwiches, and cornbread & buttermilk are still my favorite foods today.

Some other southern things I like are fried liver mush slathered with mustard, fried country ham, and grits with red eye gravy, and fried apple pies.

You and my mother would have really gotten along. She loved tomato and mayonaise(Blue Plate here) sandwiches. And got switched more than once for sneaking peas and beans out of Granny Craighead's garden and taking the salt shaker and sitting in the plum tree eating plums til she was sick, green or ripe she didn't care.

I grew up right where I live now - in Indian Trail, North Carolina. My parents grew most of our food in a big garden. We had to help plant it, cultivate it, harvest it, and prepare it for Mama to can and freeze it. I remember walking down our long dirt street from the school bus, playing with our bird dog, stepping into the garden, and picking a tomato off the vine. I would then carry it inside, wash it off, and slice it up. Then, I would get two pieces of bread, spread them with Dukes mayonnaise, and cover a slice with tomato, sprinkle it with salt and pepper, put the other slice on top, and eat it.

We eat our tomato sandwiches with toast, not bread, sometimes add slices of bacon (I used to use real yummy pork bacon, now I use turkey bacon). Otherwise they sound much the same and taste great. Best lunch ever!

We have a while to wait as well. My mouth is already watering in anticipation of those nice, juicy, ripe, dark red tomatoes! :inlove:

Okay, I'll bite. What is multi-colored egg salad? :hrmm:
When you color the hard boiled eggs some of the dye gets through tiny cracks and the egg whites become pastel on the outer surface. So the egg salad has little flecks of all the colors you used on the eggs. I don't know why he likes it so much, doesn't normally like egg salad if it's "normal". :idonno: :hellogoodbye:
