Our local Walmart carries a mixture of both of those with a couple others thrown in for effect I think. I bought yarn there a couple days ago for a spiderman afghan I'm making for my little brother (he's 9). He doesn't care what brand it is!! I hate using the "ruby colored blood pumping organ" brand  but it will be just fine for all that he'll put the afghan through.

Yeah, that yarn has it's purpose. I used it a lot when I was first learning to knit.
Then, I tried Bernat Super Value, and never looked back. :)

I've learned that if I use he "ruby colored blood pumping organ" brand for long periods of time that it hurts my finger!!! I'm hoping that a couple washes and going heavy on the fabric softener will help once it's done. I'm hoping to have it done by April 22 because he's getting baptized that day. I've got a few days shy of two weeks and since it's not exactly a taxing pattern I should be able to have it done by then. My little sister (12) wants one of the Mermaid Tears purses so that's next on my list. Then to start working on Christmas presents. I've decided that most of my Christmas presents are going to be handmade this year. That should make gift choosing interesting!!!

Yes, I've heard that a gentle wash with fabric softener, and a toss in the dryer really helps with that.

Good luck meeting your deadline!

Waverly Yarn for clothing

Postby fcnight » Fri Apr 20, 2012 4:49 am

I really enjoyed using the Waverly yarn for the KAL and wanted to use it again. I note that all the patterns are for afghans or cushions etc. Has anyone used this yarn for items of clothing i.e. sweaters or cardigans. I'm not sure if the yarn is too thick and wouldn't fall right and don't want to start something and then have to rip it out.

Thanks
Fran

Shrug`

Postby laceyj1204 » Fri Apr 20, 2012 7:15 pm

Since I have leftover yarn from the CAL that I decided not to finish due to dislike of the pattern, I have decided to make a shrug. I found the pattern elsewhere and will be using Waverly Yarn. I'll try to post a pic when I'm done. Hoping it won't take too long as I'd like to wear it this weekend!!!

**edit**

It seems that two skeins of Waverly in Cadet won't be enough for my6 shrug :rainy: so I'm going to have to wait until I get another JoAnn's coupon to order another skein or two. None of my local craft stores seem to carry the Waverly yarn.

Waverly would work great for clothing. If you're not sure, just make a swatch with your leftover blanket yarn and decide for yourself. Do you like the drape? I find it's nice and squishy and drapes well - just what I'm looking for for garments. But as a Bernat employee I might be biased.

Waverly Yarn

Postby Shichemell » Thu Oct 04, 2012 3:18 pm

Hi everyone!!

It’s been a long time since I’ve been around the forums, but I’m hoping someone will be able to help me. I need a grey colour, and want to use Waverly (simply because of the price promotion :) )
On my computer screen, none of the colours look grey, but there is one called cement. Does anyone know if this is a grey colour, or is it kind of pinkish as it looks on my computer screen?

Thank you so much for the help!!
