I do the chain and can do the first dc but I'm somehow not getting the right number of YO or something because when it says to yo and go through remaining loops on hook I only have one loop on my hook. HELP!

Well, you yo, pull up a loop ...which gives you 2, yo & pull up another one..pull through 2 & that leaves 2...then you yo & pull it through the remaining 2. I hope this helps. It took me a couple of tries to understand what it meant
. Let me know if this helps :)

It's actually a little different from that.
You start off with 1 on your hook. YO, and pull through 1 as you go in the side of the SC. Now, you have 3 on the hook. YO, and pull through 2. Next, YO, and pull through 1 as you go in the side of the SC again. You now have 4 on the hook. YO, and pull through 2, then YO and pull through all 3.

When I did my grandson's motifs...I counted & found YOU were right. I just go so fast I hadn't counted. So, I stand corrected :)

I am having a problem with this pattern.
INSTRUCTIONS
Ch 138.
1st row: (WS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *Ch 5. Miss next 3 ch. 1 sc in next ch. Rep from * to end of ch. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 5. *1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 2. (Yoh and draw up a loop. Yoh and draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times in next st. Yoh and draw through all loops on hook – cluster made. Ch 2. 1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 5. Rep from * across, ending with 1 sc in last ch-5 sp. Ch 2. 1 dc in last sc. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *Ch 5. 1 sc in next cluster. Ch 5. 1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Rep from * across, ending with 1 sc in last turning ch-5 sp. Turn.
4th row: Ch 5. *1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 5. 1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 2. Cluster in next sc. Ch 2. Rep from * across, ending with 1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 2. 1 dc in last sc. Turn.
5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in first dc. *Ch 5. 1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 5. 1 sc in next cluster. Rep from * across, ending with ch 5. 1 sc in next ch-5 sp. Ch 5. 1 sc in last turning ch-5 sp. Turn.
Rep 2nd to 5th rows for pat until work from beg measures approx 37 ins [94 cm], ending on a WS row.

I finished the first row. But I am having difficulty from the second row. I'm not sure if I am supposed to sc in the middle of the ch-5 space or the end. And after that I'm not sure if I"m supposed make a cluster in the st right after I made the sc or if I'm supposed to do it over the sc from the previous row. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Trish, you have asked this same question in 3 different discussions. I have answered it for you in the other two. No need to post multiple times for one question.

You crochet a sc IN the ch 5 space...not INTO one single ch. I hope this answers.
