You're right about the laws - unfortunately we can't award Quebec residents with prizes, sorry :( But there will be some non-material prizes (bragging rights) so you can still participate if you'd like :)

:o I'm so sorry to hear the news about our Quebec residents being ineligible for prizes. They have worked just as hard as the rest of us KALers on their afghan. Those who were unaware of the laws concerning this must be so disappointed! :tears: I know there is no way around it but I'm still sad for their predicament.

so does that mean that they can't accept 'gifts' given them? I mean, like getting a thank-you gifts...and didn't what's-her-name (the singer with the big voice) get an Emmy for something?

Not quite - there are a lot of hoops to jump through to have a contest be considered legally eligible to Quebec participants. It's partly to prevent fake contests from taking place, so it's fair, but it makes it very difficult for us to have an event where the participants win.

Don't worry, We are use to it, at least I am, I learned about that last year. Anyway, I just love Cals and Kals and I did not participate in doing the blankets to enter a contest or win prizes but to be proud of myself achieving something new and I must say unusual; besides, I chatted with a lot of wonderful people and I just hope that Bernat people will do another get together in the near future. I am still "in" and enjoying every minute of it

You have a great attitude, lialab! I joined the KAL to make an afghan and participate in the forums too. It was a surprise to me that there would be prizes of any sort.

Well, maybe we can still have our OWN prizes, where we vote for winners of certain categories. No prize actually given....just an honorable mention by Bernat Forum members. Perhaps we can set up polls for that when the time is right.
