Softee Chunky - Jacket with Options

Postby kpole » Thu Apr 12, 2012 4:46 pm

Hi everyone!
I just had a question regarding the Softee Chunky - Jacket with Options by Bernat. I have been working on the project in my spare time between the KAL clues and I just finished sewing all of the pieces together and I was just wondering if you all had any suggestions on whether or not I should wash the whole sweater once before I sew on the zipper.

Thanks!

THat is lovely! Maybe you can post a picture too? I won't comment on the zipper....I'll leave that to someone who is a more experienced knitter than me.

Here is a picture of the sweater. It was my first time making a sweater and Im pretty happy with how it turned out. It is finished except for the zipper.

I would definitely wash it before attaching the zipper. Let us know how it goes! I recommend a gentle wash in cold water, and drying at the delicate setting. (I always do that with my handknits.)

Your hoodie sweater is remarkable--first project or not! Wish I had the chutzpah to make a sweater like that for my first sweater! :scared: Sorry I can't help with any zipper advice, I just wanted to express my admiration of your sweater. I love it--it would be cool as a pullover too. What color did you use kpole?

Hi Mittenmaker,
Sadly I did not use Bernat year for this project. I needed up using Loops & Threads Impeccable in True Gray. I used this yarn because it was on sale at Michaeles and I am on a bit of a budget seeing as I am a student haha.

It came out great. I was thinking of trying to maybe use a few big buttons in stead of the zipper but Im just wondering if I have got too far to try to add buttons not.. I was thinking of making some sort of loops and sewing them on?
If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them!

Kpole--I might suggest Toggles, with loops like you suggested. Or buttons. (But Toggles might hold better, not come "undone." You could do i-cords for loops and then attach. . .I think it would be very cool. :)
