Crochet-Along Clue 8 (Week 9)

I, too, was frustrated by trying to seam the pieces together, especially because my sewing abilities leave a lot to be desired but I got the idea from another member to flat braid my pieces together and it worked great.

Anyone else leave all their end-tucking until the end and regretting that decision?
I've got everything seamed and a border on, but I don't feel like it's finished until all of those pesky ends are gone. *sigh*

ambivalent, you're welcome! Yep, me too, I got it all done except the ends. Oh, well, it's something to do while watching TV.

I am also not happy with this outcome and the border is extremely anticlimatic I did like the outcome of the last mystery cal. But after this one it will be difficult for me to do another. Both times, there was not consistency between the sqaures/motifs of their respective blankets. I had to change hook sizes on both to achieve proper sizes (which I never seem to have a problem with otherwise) and then when all pieces were finished, the edges were not even. When designing something like this, the designer should make sure that all edges have the same number of stitches for joining. I'm sure it's a challenge and I can't claim to design anything myself, but that's why I don't do it. I am just extremely disappointed with this ghan and even told my sister to stop. As of last week, she only had clue 1 finished. As a beginner I knew she would get super annoyed with the joining process and never want to work on anything else again, so I've steered her on to a new project.

WOW!!! I am really somewhat surprised at all the negative posts. This has always been so much fun and something I really look forward to. I love the element of surprise and the opportunity to learn something new. However, I realize that we are all allowed to have our own opinions.

Bernat, thank you! I loved the CAL, and I love the outcome. It looks amazing in my bedroom. I have gotten so many compliments on the uniqueness of what I have created. I find myself walking into my room several times a day to admire how it sets off the new remodeling we had done this past summer.

When I begin a project, that is what I look for ... is it unique enough to show off. The ones that I donate are the mundane, run of the mill, everybody is making it type of things.

Bernat, keep them coming. I truly look forward to the challenge of next year. In the meantime, I will be making the 2010 CAL (I missed that one somehow) as well as the KAL from this year.

Marpan79, you're welcome, and I hope it helps you. It's a lot easier than it looks. If you have any questions, feel free to write to me. Now that I learned the flat braid method, I can go back and finish the Red Heart CAL Sampler that I never finished because I couldn't get it put together right.

If you're having trouble with your ends you can weave them and tuck in the edge ones under the border.

Is that what you meant?

Since it said to leave a 12" tail on each one, I did, but since I didn't do the sewing method of joining, I didn't use it, now I have all those to weave in. If I'd known how I was going to finish, I'd have weaved them in as I did them.

I was just whining.
I didn't leave a 12" tail, and I didn't do the sewing method instead choosing to sl st my motifs together through the back loop, so I was happy about my choice there. I do weave the ends into the border and purposely rotated my motifs on the outside edge so their tiny tail would get worked in when I was making the border (because I'm lazy like that) but no matter what I try to make end-tucking less painful, I still hate it and thus, the whining.
