Crochet "On the Lace" Bernat Satin Cardigan CAL

Postby Shandeh » Sat Apr 14, 2012 3:02 pm

Have you seen the new lace cardigan design in Bernat's April 2012 newsletter?
I am so in love with that design. I've never crocheted a garment before, so this might be my first.

This is a very attractive cardigan. I was thinking that I might do it as well. I've also never done a garment for myself, although I've done quite a few for my children over the years. Our office at work looks like it will be very cold this summer, so I think I should probably come up with some lightweight sweaters that are a tad more attractive than the default black one that is currently draped over my chair!

I'm so glad that a couple of you will also be making the cardigan. We can help each other out, as we make it.

I'm not sure which yarn and what color I want to use.

I'm thinking of using it as I play piano for choir rehearsal, or for special events when I don't wear my choir robe. So, I'm probably stuck with black, white, brown, gold, beige, or cream as the color. Grey doesn't look good with my complexion.

So, here are my choices in Bernat Satin:
Snow, Silk, Camel, Mocha, Ebony, or Amber

Or in Bernat Satin Sparkle:
Diamond, Bronze, or Twilight

All of those colors would work well for church or special events. Which one do you think would be best for a crochet lace cardigan like this?

Personally, for special events, I would probably go with satin sparkle twilight, I have a black and white dress that I intend to wear on my next vacation, I think it would match perfectly :)

I agree with the satin sparkle twilight I think it would be spot on fora special event jacket!

I'm thinking of something like the Bernat Mosaics for me. I want something that can be used as a light summer sweater with several different things. They have a couple of colors that I think would work...calypso, optimistic, or daydream or strange magic. Now I just have to see if I can find them! Joanne's has had the best selections here lately.

I think y'all are right! I already have several black tops and jackets, but nothing lacy.
The other thing I have a lot of is brown, which works well for smaller special events.
And I love to wear white, because it works well with my coloring. Maybe I'll use white later on another project.

Oh, I bet Mosaic will look beautiful with this design! :inlove:

Wow, I'm no where near ready to work on this project, but was sitting here this evening on the computer and between tasks, I picked up a hook and yarn and did a small swatch of this pattern. Not the easiest that I've done, and frogged about 4 or 5 times. :idonno: Its going to be a pretty set of stitches but just doing the foundation row on the chain row, will take forever! That's my least favorite part of any project.....the first row. Always hard, especially when you are doing several stitches in one of the chains. Maybe after doing it about 100 times, it will get faster. I'll just have to keep reminding myself how pretty it's going to be. :cloud9:
