Picot Stitch - Double Crochet

Postby SherrySanchez » Fri Apr 20, 2012 5:19 pm

I have a pattern for a baby blanket made up of picot stitches. I thought picot was single crochet. The pattern has you doing picot on dc. How do you do picot on dc?

I think that there are lots of ways to do a picot stitch, could you put a few lines of the pattern here if you still need help?

When I google Picot stitch I only get results for one way to do it as a single crochet. Here is what the pattern says:
"Pattern Stitch
P: Ch 2, sl st in dc just made.
Blanket
Row 1: Ch 169, dc in 4th ch from hook, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch, p, dc in same st, [sk 2 chs, dc in next ch, p, dc in same st] rep across to last 2 chs, sk 1 ch, dc in last ch, turn. (counting last 3 chs of foundation ch as first dc, plus 1 dc 55 pattern rep, plus 1 dc)"

The Picot stitch is a sc, chain 3, slip stitch in 3rd chain from hook. But for the pattern I am working on
I am thinking the Picot is as follows, dc, chain 2, sl st in dc itself (not 2nd chain from hook) then another dc in same stitch. I just want to make sure I am doing this correctly. Thanks for any help.

I tried what was written and they look like little flowers. But lopsided. Is that your concern? I also tried sl st in the sc instead of ch for the picot and it makes it more centered. Adding that sc in there to me gives it some more stability. I think anyway you choose to do it is fine as long as it is consistent throughout. I was looking for a pretty easy border for a lapghan and this just might be what i choose but I will sl in the sc instead. Thanks for the suggestion, and good luck with yours!

Oops, now I reread the post, is the whole blanket this stitch or what follows? I thought it was edging.

This is it for the whole blanket. I justv repeat row 2 until it measures 36 inches. I never heard of doing a picot this way before and just want tom make sure I am doing it correctly before I go any further :) This would make a great edging though.

You are right, I would do exactly what you are thinking if I were making the blanket. A dc, chain 2, sl st in dc itself IS a picot stitch. :)

Great, Thank you. I always second guess myself. I wanted to do it correctly from the start and not have to go back and redo anything. . :)
