Good job! Well done! Is the turquoise looking colour the Greek Sea? It looks dreamy!

Hi Janet. Now you've got a great accent colour - claret!
Out of curiosity, what colour was your yarn before the spill? Is it coming out a nice marbled something or other? Maybe you could do the same thing for other squares of that colour (or even just appliqué something over the top of your one square). I do cross stitch and sometimes there are directions to deliberately stain your cloth with tea or other liquids to make them look 'naturally aged'.

Maybe this could be your sit-by-the-fire-and-drink-wine blanket! No need to worry about future spills. Reminds me of the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, and how the rule was never to wash them, and they got marked up with all sorts of life adventures.

Your hands sound painful. Have you heard of pure shea butter? It is an ingredient of many lotions and potions these days, but a colleague of mine from the Ivory Coast gave me a hunk of the pure stuff for my son's exema, and it works wonders on very dry and chapped skin. And the best part is that it is not greasy!

Wonderful result, Petria, so glad you shared. It looks great with your wood, the floor, and your blue curtains. I hope you'll do another afghan - I am ready to go again soon!

Thanks Bernat for this forum.

Hi knitting -
that is the best part of this whole thing - getting other people excited and curious. I am taking mine into the library where I work tomorrow night to show the end result - they've been hearing about it and seeing bits and pieces for 8 weeks and are very curious to see what it really is like - they've only seen photos. I hope to keep learning new things all the time, and it's encouraging to hear that there are always new things to discover. No excuse to be bored, I guess!

Janet wrote:I love all the pictures of the finished afghans. They are beautiful. I am trying desperately to finish my afghan. I have been dealing with extremely dry and cracked hands, making it hard to knit. (Lovely Alberta Weather..LOL) Then I finally start to make head way (3 Clue 3 squares and 2 Clue 4 Squares to go) and then I go and spill a full glass of red wine (yes, RED wine) all over 1 square and the entire ball of yarn. Unfortunately my colors do not include red. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I decided to laugh. Now after a few days of non-knitting, I have decided to continue and accept what ever it looks like, well thats what it will be. Everytime I look at that afghan, it will remind me to not drink wine while knitting or at least drink wine out of a sippy cup.

Oh NOOOOOO!!! :o
I'm so sorry that happened to you. But, it sounds like you have a great attitude about the whole thing.

Even though I have not contributed to the forum until tonight, I have read most of the posts and they have been invaluable. The afghans are beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I am looking forward to the next one :)

They were amazed and excited about it and some even wanted to do one now also. Maybe I can get them in on the next mystery afghan. I have bought yarn and have 3 squares finished :knit: for my second one that I am doing for my eldest daughter for Christmas. Plan on making one for her husband also but possibly making it one square longer. He is 6'5" or 6'6" tall. If the forum is still open when I finish I will post photos of them also. For those of you who are still working, I am anxious to see your afghans as you finish them. Keep up the good work. By the way, I have been knitting for 52 years and still learned something new with this mystery afghan. :knit: I had never done a knit below before and hadn't even heard of such a thing in all my years. Great story! Tell your co-workers that it's not too late for them to make this year's blanket! The Bernat Forum will still be available, so they won't be alone as they work on their project.

I enjoyed knitting along with my sister. Liked learning new patterns and stitches, really liked the border. Originally selected a darker rose (Porcelein Red) instead of the yellow but when the yarn came it was a little orangey. I did have a full skein of the yellow (border and middle blocks) left over.

Finally, I appreciate the inclusive and educational environment at Bernat. The instructional video tools are extremely helpful and the admins and moderators of the forums are always present and engaged - even doing the project right along with the rest of us. Noone is turned away; there isn't a prerequisite to be working with Bernat yarn in order to get help or participate in a project. So many times I have seen yarn shops offer classes or help, but only if you buy everything right there.

I'm done with my soapbox speech - here are the "afghan in context" photos:

:notworthy: Very nice! it looks very chic and I like your colors :bravo:

As for your last comment let me join you in appreciation for all we have learned and people we have met (so to speak). A big hug for all of you
