Oh, and now I'm reading that we don't have to nominate for a specific category at this point? We just nominate entries to compete in a final round, Where we Will later cast one vote per category? I'm more confused than ever now!

Hello - I am a bit confused, forgive me, but in reading the guidelines/rules for nominations, the wording for the category of "Best Original Layout" states two different things:
Under the topic “MYSTERY AFGHAN NOMINATIONS: Best Original Layout” it states "Nominate the favorite afghan layout of the KAL/CAL here! These afghans matchthe layout of the official Bernat pattern. Modifications can be small or large.

Under the topic "Contest Rules" it states, “The favorite afghan that does not match the layout of the official Bernat pattern. Modifications can be small or large."

Okay, so you can see where I might be confused indicated in the underline text in both sentences above. Basically, I just want to know if it's okay to nominate an afghan in this category that is not necessarily the indicated layout in the pattern. In other words their afghan is not arranged in the flower pattern but does use the same motifs.

Thank you so much. :notworthy:

[b]You must nominate a blanket for a specific category.[b] The voting posts will go up when the voting begins - they are not available yet.

Sorry, that was a mistake in the copy! The post should read "These afghans do not match the layout" - if you're nominating a blanket because the knitter/crocheter has changed the arrangement of the motifs into something great, that is where you would do it.

Will Bernat sort through and condense the photos of finished blankets so it's easier for us to review and vote?

Where are you going to view them? I only see a message saying I don't have permissions to view but I don't know why this is the case?

Gosh! I didn't know anything about a contest. I'm still blocking mine!! I was in the middle of blocking the butterfly blanket I'm doing for my granddaughter when I had to leave for Florida when my mother-in-law was put in the hospital. When I got back home from Florida I concentrated on finishing the butterfly blanket. I don't know if I'll be able to finish the mystery afghan in time. We'll see what happens.

I did not block and it turned out great--would save you lots of time and let you finish before the deadline. Good luck!!!

This was my first CAL and my first completed project. What I don't understand is, why isn't there a category for Best official Layout? Doesn't this basically tell us NOT to follow the layout in the future and just disregard the official layout that we not so patiently waited for? I don't understand why we wouldn't be encouraged to follow the suggested layout that the designers at Bernat worked so hard in creating.

Best in Show and Best Use of Color both allow for the official layout to be nominated :)
