Crochet Along: Finished Blanket Photos

I was not sure I would like the color combinations but the boarder brought the colors together. This the the first afghan I sewed so many pieces together. I always avoided piecing, but it went quickly. I was looking for a southwestern look, but I think it is more Victorian.

This is how I did my border:

First 2 rows: sc around

Next row, (3 petal flower, color A): slip st first 4 st working back loop, in next st, (1sc, 3ch, 1tr, 3ch, 1sc, 3ch, 1tr, 3ch, 1sc, 3ch, 1tr, 3ch, 1 sl st.(flower made)
*slip stitch next 9 sts working back loop, in next st. (1sc, 3ch, 1tr, 3ch, 1sc, 3ch, 1tr, 3ch, 1sc,, 3ch 1tr, 3ch, 1sl st* repeat* * around ending with 5 sl st working back loop. break color A

Next row (cluster color B): 1sl st in first sl st of last row, 4 ch, 1sl st on top of first petal, 4ch, 2trtog, 1 sl st on top of 2nd petal, 4 ch, 2trtog, 1 sl st on top of 3rd petal, 4ch, skip next 4 sl st, *in next sl st,1sc, 2 ch, 1dc, 3ch, 1 sl st, 4 ch, 1 sl st on top of first petal, 4ch, 2tr tog, 1sl st on top of second petal, 4 ch, 2 trtog, 1 sl st on top of 3rd petal 4 ch, skip next 4 sl st.* Repeat* * around ending with 1sc, 2ch, 1dc, 3ch, 1 sl st in first sl st of beg of row. break off!

Finally finished mine today!!!

My photography skills are not the best, but I hope you can see the final design I chose is an octogon. From the moment I started playing around with layout options, my motifs were screaming, "We want to be an octogon!!" With the new skills and confidence I gained from this adventure I was able to make half-granny triangles and created trapezoids to fill the spaces needed to make the outside borders.

I left the long thread end on my motifs. Am I to use that for seaming? I am still at the "put it together" stage but I am done with all the pieces.

Yes, you can use those ends for seaming.

Finally finished mine! I had a hard time deciding on a border so I kind of created my own.

Yarn - TLC black - Bernat Satin Aqua - Bernat Satin Lavender - Red Heart Boutique - Mosaic - Sensations Rainbow - green - I stayed with the original designs on both afghans. They turned out like stained glass. Art deco. I am very happy with the results.
