Waverly - Long Lines Blanket

Postby Soo » Thu Apr 26, 2012 9:14 pm

I am knitting this afghan in the Beautiful Things pattern book. The afgan uses 4 colours and is knitted lengthwise. Do I need to break the yarn when starting new colours on each row or am I supposed ot carry the 4 colours along? The instructions are not clear.

If the same color will be used again after just a couple rows, do not cut it. But, if you work several rows of a new color, you will want to cut the yarn you just stopped using.

Thanks for the advice.

I am starting the striped pattern and I'm wondering if there is a typo on row 4 and 5. When I follow the directions, I do not get the seed pattern--I get the stocking stitch. I've counted my stitches several time to make sure I have 240.

Has anyone else come across this?

On Row 4, you should knit seven stitches, then do "P1, K1, P1, K1, etc." until you get to the last 8 stitches, then you will P1, K7.
On Row 5, you should do exactly the same as Row 4. This will cause you to purl the stitches that were purled on the row before, and knit the stitches that were knitted on the row before. As you look at each stitch, you will be purling the smooth stitches, and knitting the "knotted" stitches. This will create seed stitch.

Now, it's possible that there should be 241 stitches cast on, to make that design work correctly. If so, don't start over, just add an extra stitch on Row 3, so you'll have enough for Row 4. That one stitch increase will not be noticeable on the blanket.

I will let Bernat Customer Support know that you are having a problem.
